These instructions are intended for users with basic
electronic knowledge . Please read the instructions
carefully prior to operation and keep them for later
reference .
1 Applications
The module DSP-1 is designed to protect sensitive
speakers in case of overload by excessive level peaks .
The max . admissible load can be adjusted . The posi-
tive wire to the speaker is interrupted by a relay if the
adjusted power is exceeded .
There will be no negative effects such as power loss
or sound modification . The module is especially used
for tweeters, but it can also protect midrange speakers
or smaller multi-way speaker systems in the entire audio
range from 20 Hz to 20 kHz . The module can be easily
installed into existing systems .

2 Safety Notes

This module corresponds to all relevant directives of
the EU and is therefore marked with
The module is suitable for indoor use only . Protect
it against dripping water and splash water, high air
humidity, and heat (admissible ambient tempera-
ture range 0 – 40 °C) .
For cleaning only use a dry, soft cloth, never use
chemicals or water .
No guarantee claims for the module and no liabil-
ity for any resulting personal damage or material
damage will be accepted if the module is used for
other purposes than originally intended or if it is
not correctly connected .
If the module is to be put out of operation
definitively, take it to a local recycling plant
for a disposal which is not harmful to the
environment .

3 Connection
1) Connect the amplifier output or the output of the
crossover network for the speaker to be protected
to the contacts IN+ (positive pole) and IN− (neg-
ative pole) .
2) Connect the speaker to the contacts OUT+ (pos-
itive pole) and OUT− (negative pole) . Make sure
that all positive and negative poles are correctly
connected . Otherwise, the sound quality may be
poor due to phase inversion .
3) If an optical indication is desired to show that the
module has responded in case of overload, a se-
ries connection consisting of a protective diode
(1N4007), a series resistor (1 – 5 kΩ, 0 .5 W), and
an LED may be connected to the contacts LED+
and LED− . However, these components are not
re quired for a perfect protection function .
The breaker contact for the speakers consists
of a selector switch . Thus, in case of overload,
the output voltage of the amplifier switches to
the contact LED+ . If an LED is connected to this
contact, the LED lights to the beat of the overload .
4 Adjusting the Threshold
The threshold for the protection circuit is factory-set to
approx . 20 W for an 8 Ω speaker . This corresponds to
40 W for a 4 Ω speaker . By turning trim potentiometer
TR1 (a) clockwise, the threshold can be adjusted to
max . 200 W for an 8 Ω speaker . This corresponds to
400 W for the connection of a 4 Ω speaker .
For exact adjustment, a power resistor, an
effective voltmeter and a sine generator or test CD are
required . If necessary, contact a specialized work shop .
Caution! When the threshold is too high, the module
will not protect the speaker .
