Installation instructions

Installation instructions:
Make sure there is sufficient a lowance for dimensions in line with DIN 1988 section 300 and EN 806-3. DIN 1988 section 100 (protection
of drinking water; preservation of drinking water quality) and EN 1717 (protection of drinking water against contaminants in drinking
water installations) are to be observed.
Water qualities:
SCHELL shower fit ings are suitable for use in drinking water systems in accordance with the current German Drinking Water Ordinance.
Depending on the system, there are sensitive parts within the fit ings that need to be protected against dirt particles and limescale
deposits. If necessary, back-wash filters and decalcific ion systems are to be provided (water upwards of 10° dH). Approval is needed to
operate fit ings with mineral waters where their contents tend to flocculate, or which a e particularly aggressive towards metal materials.
All products from Schell can be used with all potable waters in accordance with the EU Drinking Water Directive. Applicable national
regulations about general partial water softening for drinking water must be observed.
General installation instructions:
Use corrosion resistant pipe materials. Only seal threads with permitted sealants. Do not exceed standard torque!
Rarely used fittings
Choose pipe routing that will not allow for stagnating water to collect (ring installation). If necessary, provide flush valves behind he
fit ings. If using after longer periods of non-operation, let the water drain; see „German Environmental Agency" (Umweltbundesamt)
recommendation.
Protection against legionella:
Provide fit ings with integrated flush valve (LINUS Inox D -SC-T #00 845 28 99) for thermal disinfection where there is a risk of high
concentrations of legionella or take other measures conforming with the DVGW (German association for gas and water) worksheet W 551.
Take particular care with installations for people with weak immune systems.
Instructions for commissioning:
Prior to commissioning, all pipe lines are to be flushed in acco dance with the ZVSHK (‚German Association for Sanitation, Heating and
Air Conditioning') worksheet, DIN 1988-200 and DIN EN 806-4. Every fit ing is to undergo a pressure test after installation; where possi-
ble, perform the pressure test with compressed air.
Fittings with thermostats:
The temperature setting for thermostats is to be checked; hot water stop (38 °C ± 1 K).
WARNING: After removing the locking disc, water temperatures can cause scalding. Do not remove the locking disc when the fit ings
are used by people who are particulary at risk (care facilities, kindergartens). Thermostat fit ings have an anti-scalding protection feature
complying with EN 1111.
Outdoor installation:
WARNING: Empty tap if there is a risk of frost! Remove the functional components or permanently protect the fit ing against freezing with
heat tape.
Instructions for self-closing fittings
All fit ings are checked in the factory to ensure they are fully functional and set to a cycle of approx. 20 s for the following values:
1. Flow pressure: 3 bar
2. Mixed water temperature: 38 °C
3. Showerhead flow: 9 l/min at 3 ba
Different pressures, flow ates and temperature changes lead to different cycle times:
1. Change in cycle times due to flow p essure changes
Greater pressure - shorter cycle
Lower pressure - longer cycle
2. Change in cycle times due to other flow ates
Lower flow ate - shorter cycle
Higher flow ate - longer cycle
3. Change in cycle times due to temperature changes
Higher temperature - shorter cycle
Lower temperature - longer cycle
The cycle setting can be set for between approx. 5 and approx. 30 s at 3 bar flow p essure using the regulating needle (see page 28).
Cycle fluctua ions due to pressure fluctua ions are usual within the supply network.
The SCHELL „General installation conditions" at www.schell.eu -> Service/Downloads/Installation conditions apply.
