The +12 V amplifier connection must then be connected with a power cable possessing an integrated fuse to the battery's plus pole. The fuse should be
located close to the battery; for safety reasons, the cable from the positive terminal of the battery to the fuse must not exceed 60 cm in length. Only insert
the fuse when all installation work, including the connection of the loudspeakers, has been completed.
Now connect the car hi-fi receiver's remote control connection to the amplifier's REM control jack. A cable with a cross-section of 0.75 mm² is sufficient for
connecting the amplifier's REMOTE connection and the control device.
4.2 AUDIO CABLES
When installing the audio cable between the cinch output of your car receiver and the cinch input of the amplifier inside your car, the audio and power
supply cables should, wherever possible, not be routed along the same side of the vehicle. We recommend an isolated installation, e.g. routing the power
cable through the cable duct on the left-hand side and the audio cable through the cable duct on the right-hand side or vice versa. This reduces interference
due to crosstalk into the audio cables.
4.3 LOUDSPEAKER CONNECTIONS
In normal operation, i.e. speakers connected at all amplifier channels, the minimum permitted load impedance is 2 ohm per channel.
In bridge-mode operation, i.e. amplifier outputs connected in groups of two each, the minimum permitted load impedance is twice as high at 4 ohm.
Never connect the negative terminals of the loudspeakers to the car chassis!
Never connect the +12V power supply line to a loudspeaker output! This will cause irreparable damage to the amplifier power stage!
In bridge-mode operation connect the loudspeakers as shown in figure 5.
Attention: Channel 5 has a digital power amplifier and must never be connected to the outputs of channels 1 – 4.
WARNING: Operating the amplifier connected to speaker systems with lower combined impedance values than those specified or incorrect
operation as described above can damage both the amplifier and the connected speakers! Such incorrect connection and/or operation voids
the warranty.
5. CONTROLS, INPUTS AND OUTPUTS
5.1 SETTING THE INPUT SENSITIVITY
You can adjust the input sensitivity precisely to match any car receiver or tape deck. To make this adjustment set the volume control of your receiver to the
middle position and then adjust the input level controls (3), (7) and (14) for an average medium volume level. This setting will normally give you enough
reserve power with optimum signal to noise performance.
WARNING: Only play loud test signals for brief periods to prevent damage to your speakers!
5.2 HIGH PASS FILTER WITH ADJUSTABLE CROSSOVER FREQUENCY
Channels 1 to 4 of the amplifier may be used for driving satellite (medium/tweeter) speakers. Set selector (4) to "HPF" and selector (6) depressed at
"15Hz/300Hz" for channel 1 and 2, selector (11) for channels 3 and 4 to position "HPF", and selector (8) to position "FULL". Adjust the desired crossover
frequencies by means of controls (5) and (12). This ensures that only the frequencies above the set crossover threshold are amplified, which effectively
minimises the excessive speaker membrane deflection and resulting distortion that low frequencies can cause in small satellite speakers, without reducing
the bass signal level.
5.3 LOW PASS FILTER WITH ADJUSTABLE CROSSOVER FREQUENCY
Channels 3 to 5 may be used as subwoofer channels. For channels 3 and 4 set selector (11) to "FULL", selector (8) to "LPF" and switch (10) depressed at
"15Hz/300Hz". Adjust the desired crossover frequency by means of controls (9) and (19). Thus, the filter can be adapted to sound requirements of your
woofer. The high edge steepness of the filter ensures that mid and high range frequencies are reduced very precisely.
5.4 BAND-PASS FUNCTION FOR CHANNELS 3 AND 4
The filters integrated in channels 3 and 4 may be used as a band-pass by activating the high-pass and low-pass filters simultaneously. This option is required
for setting up an active 3-way system (see fig. 2 in the appendix). The low-pass filter selector (8) must be in its far-right position "LPF", switch (10) not
depressed at "500Hz/6kHz", and the high-pass selector (11) in its "HPF" position. Controls (12) and (9) may now be used to set the lower and upper limit
frequencies of the resulting band-pass.
The switch (6) can be used to switch the control range of the high-pass filter on channels 1 and 2 from 15 – 300 Hz to 300 Hz – 6 kHz. The switch (10) can
be used to switch the control range of the low-pass filter on channels 3 and 4 from 50 – 600 Hz to 500 Hz– 6 kHz. These switch-over possibilities for the
filter frequency ranges make an electronic multiway system feasible (Fig. 2).
5.5 SUBSONIC FILTER (CHANNEL 5)
The subsonic filter (18) prevents distortions in subwoofers which can be caused by subsonic frequencies.
5.6 BASS-BOOST (CHANNEL 5)
The bass-boost function (16) is used to increase or equalize the lower bass frequencies.
5.7 INTERNAL SUMMING AMPLIFIER
The internal summing amplifier generates a sum signal from channels 1 and 2 to control channel 5. The switch (15) is set to the "INT" position for this
purpose. If a radio with a separate subwoofer output is used, the switch (15) is set to "EXT" and the car radio subwoofer output connected to the cinch jack
(13).
