INTRODUCTION

Read the whole of this book before commencing work with the unit.
MCS units are designed to optimise cell growth using microcarrier
and other techniques for the production of biological cells.
A system comprises the stirrer platform and a number of borosilicate
glass culture vessels.
The culture vessels incorporate a unique base design which,
together with the bulb-ended stirrer, ensures that cultures are lifted
into suspension at the lowest possible speeds. This gentle stirring
action promotes a high plating efficiency and cell yield.
Cell attachment and high yield are also aided by the softstart/stop
and interval stirring facilities. The former ensures a slow
acceleration/deceleration of the stirrer. This avoids turbulence in the
culture medium and damage to the cells.
Interval stirring can be used during the attachment phase to further
reduce agitation of the culture medium.
Accessory
An MWB-12L water bath is available for independent temperature
control (see separate instruction manual).
It can only be used with the MCS-104L or the MCS-101L Stirrers.
