5 Operation

1) Switch on the receiver with the POWER switch (2)
[keep it pressed for approximately 1 s].
The frequency indication (l) on the display (3) will
show the received frequency adjusted. If this fre-
quency corresponds to one of the group/channel
combination assigned by the manufacturer, the
group ( , , or ) will be indicated below the "G" (j)
with the corresponding channel (1 – 16) below the
"CH" (k). If there is no assignment, "--" will be indi -
cated respectively below the "G" and below the "CH".
The unit will be muted [indication MUTE (h)] until
it receives a radio signal from the transmitter on the
frequency adjusted.
2) Before switching on the transmitter, set the receiver
to a transmission frequency which is free and free
from interference → chapter 5.1 or 5.2. Via the
audio unit connected to the output, no interference
or signals of other transmissions must be audible
and the reception bar graph RF (e) must not indi-
cate any signal.
Note: If other wireless transmission systems are
operated with this wireless system at the same
time, the radio frequencies of the individual
systems should be carefully matched to each
other to prevent interference.
3) Switch on the wireless microphone MH-8990 / 2 or
the pocket transmitter PT-990B / 2 and set it to the
same transmission group and the same transmis-
sion channel or to the same radio frequency ad -
justed on the receiver: see instruction manual of the
microphone or the transmitter.
If the transmitter and the receiver are set to the
same frequency, the muting will be deactivated
[indication MUTE (h) is extinguished]. One of the
indications A
which of the two separate receiving parts of the unit
receives the more powerful radio signal. The bar
graph RF (e) will show the reception quality: the
more segments of the bar graph are displayed, the
better the reception.
If the reception is too poor, check
a if the batteries of the transmitter are exhausted.
The battery symbol (f) on the display will show
the current charging status of the batteries of the
transmitter:
fully charged
If the batteries are exhausted (indication
the colour of the display will additionally change
from green to orange as a warning.
b if the distance between the transmitter and the
receiver is too long.
c if the reception is disturbed by objects in the
transmission path.
The transmitter and the receiver should have a
minimum distance of 50 cm from metal objects
10
or B
(g) will light up to indicate
exhausted
and any sources of interference, e. g. motors or
fluorescent tubes.
d if the reception can be improved by turning the
antennas.
Note: If the power of the radio signal falls below a
defined threshold value, the receiver will be
muted. This will prevent noise on the receiver in
case of interference with reception or when
switch ing off the transmitter. In this case, the
display will show MUTE (h). The muting will be
de activated as soon as the unit receives a radio
signal of sufficient power again.
4) Speak/sing into the microphone. The volume level
of the audio signal received is displayed via the bar
graph AF (i): The more segments of the bar graph
AF are displayed, the higher the volume level.
Adjust the wireless microphone or the pocket
transmitter to an optimum volume via the bar graph
AF: see instruction manual of the microphone or
the transmitter.
5) Match the output level of the receiver by means of
the volume control VOL (7) to the input of the sub-
sequent unit.
6) The receiver can be locked to prevent accidental
modification of the reception parameters adjusted
or switching off: → chapter 5.3.
7) After operation, switch off the receiver with the
POWER switch (2) [keep it pressed for a minimum
of 1 s]. Remember to switch off the wireless micro-
phone/the pocket transmitter as well, otherwise the
batteries will be exhausted the next time the system
is used.
If the receiver is not used for a longer period,
disconnect the power supply unit from the mains as
it will have a low power consumption even with the
receiver switched off.
5.1 Adjusting the received frequency
1) Keep the key
tion FREQ (b) starts flashing. The frequency ad -
justing mode is activated.
Note: To exit the adjusting mode without making an
adjustment, press the key
the display shows
return to normal operation.
2) Use the cursor keys

quency is increased by 25 kHz; each time the key
is pressed, it is decreased by 25 kHz. To scan a
wide frequency range, keep the corresponding key
pressed.
3) To memorize the received frequency, press the key
once again. The display will shortly indicate
the adjusting mode will be exited and the unit will go
to normal operation.
