Blade maintenance
• Regularly check that the blade is free from a build-up of gum resins or sawdust. If necessary, clean with a
solvent-based maintenance spray or mineral turpentine
• Regularly check the saw blade for flatness. Use of the saw with a buckled blade places excessive load on
the motor and gearbox assembly, and may affect your warranty rights
• Check the blade for worn or damaged teeth and replace if necessary
Cleaning
• Keep the tool's motor vents unclogged and clean at all times
• Remove dust and dirt regularly with a cloth or soft brush
• Never use caustic agents to clean plastic parts. A damp cloth is recommended. Water must never come
into contact with the saw
• Re-lubricate all moving parts at regular intervals
0° & 45° angle calibration
1. For 0° calibration set the bevel angle of the saw to 0° as indicated on the Bevel Angle Scale (16) and
plunge the saw blade to the maximum depth and hold at that position
2. On the underside of the saw use a set square (or other angle measurement tool) to check the angle
between the side of the blade and the underside of the base is 90°
3. If the angle is slightly off 90° use the two 0° Micro Adjusters (10 & 12) to correct the angle using the Track
Key (38). Check across the side of the blade to make sure the 90° angle is maintained across the whole
surface and, if slightly skewed, adjust only one of the 0° Micro Adjusters to compensate
4. Once set correctly for the angle loosen the Angle Indicator Bolt (13) and adjust the Angle Indicator (15) so it
is exactly pointing to 0°
1. For 45° adjustment set the bevel angle of the saw to 45° as indicated on the Bevel Angle Scale (16) and
plunge the saw blade to the maximum depth and hold at that position
2. On the underside of the saw use a 45° angle measurement tool to check the angle between the side of the
blade and the underside of the base
3. If the angle is slightly off 90° use the 45° Micro Adjuster (30) to correct the angle using the Track Key (38)
Brush replacement
The carbon brushes are a consumable item which should be inspected periodically and replaced when worn
1. Remove the motor cover by unscrewing the 2 Motor Cover Screws (11) and carefully pulling off the cover
2. Loosen the screw of the brush retaining plate as arrowed in Image G and move the plate around to release
the brush assembly
3. Tilt the contact plate of the brush (arrowed in Image H) so it can be removed from the brush housing
4. Once removed from the housing remove the wired insulated contact plug from the brush and dispose of the
worn brush
5. Attach a new carbon brush to the insulated contact plug and refit to brush assembly
6. Carefully insert the brush assembly back into the motor housing (use the other side of the motor to see
how the brush assembly fits)
7. Reposition the brush retaining plate and retighten the screw
8. Repeat the above for the other brush
9. Refit the motor cover and tighten the 2 Motor Cover Screws
10. Run the tool for a few minutes without plunging or load to allow the brushes to bed in
Note: Always replace carbon brushes in pairs.
Note: GMC Tools will not be responsible for any damage or injury caused by mishandling or unauthorised
repair of this tool. If unsure about brush replacement have the brushes replaced at an authorised GMC service
centre.
