It was the dream of Bruce McLaren to win the Formula One with a car which bore his
name. He took part in Formula Two in 1958 at the age of 20, then raced for the Cooper
team in 1959 and earned his first victory at the American GP. In 1963, he founded
Bruce McLaren Motor Racing Limited and challenged the Canadian-American
Challenge Cup (CAN-AM) and Formula One from 1966. In 1970, an accident during
testing took McLaren's life and the team was thus left without its influential founder.
However, Teddy Meyer took the helm and continued the team's successful racing
activities. 1972 saw the team gain sponsorship from the British cosmetics maker
Yardley and the cars accordingly received a white livery with distinctive black, brown,
and gold "Y" on their noses. In 1973, McLaren entered the new M23 designed by
Gordon Coppuck, which featured a front double wishbone/rear 4-link suspension and
a Ford Cosworth DFV engine. It also had a lightweight alloy monocoque with

1972 gewann das Team die britische Kosmetikmarke Yardley als Sponsor und die
Autos erhielten fortan eine weiBe Lackierung mit charakteristischen ,,Y" in schwarz,
braun und gold auf den Fronthauben. 1973 brachte McLaren den neuen M23 heraus,
der von Gordon Coppuck designed wurde welcher mit einer vorderen
Doppeltquerlenker-Achse, einer Hinterachse mit vier Lenkarmen und einem Cosworth

essais, L'equipe perd alors son fondateur et qui plus est, son pilote et designer. Teddy
Meyer prit alors les commandes et poursuivit les differentes activites de I'equipe. A
partir de 1972, le team est sponsorise par la marque de cosmetique britannique
Yardley et les voitures furent decorees a ses couleurs : blanc, noir et brun avec un "Y"
dore sur le nez. En 1973 apparait la M23 concue par Gordon Coppuck, avec une
suspension avant a double triangulation et arriere a quatre bras tires et moteur Ford
Cosworth DFV. Cette voiture est egalement equipee d'un chassis monocoque leger en

generate downforce. Denis Hulme drove the M23 to win the Swedish GP and Peter
Revson added victories at the British and Canadian GPs to give McLaren 3rd place in
the Constructors' Championship that year. For the 1974 season, the team was boosted
by 1972 world champion Emerson Fittipaldi and former motorcycle champion Mike
Hailwood, as well as additional sponsorships from Marlboro and Texaco. The two
Marlboro Team Texaco M23s were driven by Hulrne and Fittipaldi while the Yardley
Team McLaren M23 was driven by Hailwood, and later David Hobbs and Jochen Mass.
Fittipaldi went on to earn 55 points, including 3 GP wins, to claim his second Drivers"
Championship, while the supporting efforts of the other team drivers allowed McLaren
to also claim its first Constructors' title.

Die Karosserie trug eine Ansaughutze welche eine Luftfuhrung zur Anstromung des
Heckfliigels besaB um mehr Abtrieb zu erzeugen. Dennis Hulme fuhr den M23 zum
Sieg beim Schwedischen GP und Peter Revson gewann die Britischen und den
Kanadischen GPs womit sie den dritten Platz in der Konstrukteursweltmeisterschaft in
diesem Jahr gewannen. Fur die Saison 1974 wurde das Team verstarkt durch den
Weltmeister von 1972 Emerson Fittipaldi und durch den Motoradweltmeister Mike
Hailwood. Als Sponsoren kamen Malboro und Texaco dazu. Die zwei M23 des Marlbo-
ro Team Texaco wurden von Mike Hailwood und spater David Hobbs und Jochen
Mass gefahren. Fittipaldi errang 55 Punkte bei drei Siegen und errang damit seine
zweite Fahrerweltmeisterschaft, wahrend die anderen Teamfahrer McLaren dabei
halfen den ersten Konstrukteurs-Titel einzufahren.

deux M23 Marlboro Team Texaco etaient pilotees par D. Hulme et E. Fittipaldi tandis
que celle du Yardley Team McLaren etait confiee a Hailwood, puis David Hobbs et
Jochen Mass. Fittipaldi remporta 55 points, dont trois victoires de GP, et remporta son
deuxieme litre de Champion du Monde tandis que les efforts des autres pilotes des
equipes permirent a McLaren de remporter son premier litre de Champion du Monde
des Constructeurs.
