If emergency exit devices are produced in more than one size, it is im-
portant to select the correct size.
Class 2 emergency exit devices (standard projection) should be used in
those cases where the width of the escape route is limited or the doors
in which the devices are installed cannot be opened to more than 90°.
If emergency exit devices are designed for installation on glazed doors,
it is of particular importance that the glass elements are made of safety
or laminated safety glass.
Emergency exit devices are not suitable for installation in swing doors
unless they have been especially designed for that purpose by the exit
device manufacturer.
For the installation, all fastening instructions should be observed care-
fully. These instructions as well as all maintenance instructions should
be handed over to the operator by the fitter. (see section „Maintenance
instructions")
Typically, the operating element should be installed at a height of 900 to
1,100 mm above the top of the finished floor with the door closed. If it is
known that the majority of users of the building will be small children,
installation at a lower height may be considered.
When installing emergency exit devices with lever handle operation,
especially in doors with stepped surfaces, any potential safety risks, e.g.
of fingers getting squeezed or clothing getting caught, should be pre-
vented wherever possible.
Never drill a hole through a door leaf in which a lock has been fitted.
Never carry the door at the knob or the lever handle.
Never use force to drive the handle pin through the follower (hub).
The distance between the forend and the striking plate / door frame
should be 3.5 mm ±1.5 mm.
The fastening screws at the door fitting must be tightened. Be careful
not to exert any pressure on the lock as the latch bolt or the release
mechanism may be jammed otherwise.
It should be possible to move the dead bolt freely and without friction
into the striking plate / door frame, even when pressure is exerted on
the door.
When weather strips (e.g. gaskets) are used for the door, it should be en-
sured that these do not interfere with the functioning of the emergency
exit device as intended.
The locking elements and locking counterparts should be installed in a
way that permits a safe engagement. Care should be taken that the pro-
jection of the locking elements in retracted position does not interfere
with the free movement of the door.
It must be ensured that the latch bolt moves into the striking plate by
at least 6 mm.
