Intended Use
Line lasers are used in industrial image processing as well
as for detecting, aligning, positioning, and measuring
workpieces. Depending on the application and the material
to be checked, you can choose between red, green, or
blue wavelengths.
Product Labels
This product is labeled with a yellow warning label indica-
ting the laser class of the module. If this label is missing,
contact Balluff GmbH and do not operate the laser.

Safety Notes
This User Guide must be read carefully before the initial
startup of the device.
Installation, connection, and initial startup may only be
carried out by specially trained personnel. The technical
data must be observed when making the connections!
The technical specifications in these operating instructions
must be observed.
Inspect the entire device (including mechanical parts,
optical surfaces, and optional accessories) for visible
damage. If there is any kind of damage, do not put the
device into operation under any circumstances!
Determine the laser protection class of your product (see
yellow warning label) and be mindful of the intended
operating environment as per the laser safety regulations.
Take all necessary safety precautions and ensure that no
one is accidentally exposed to the laser beam.
The laser must not be installed in potentially explosive
areas. Outgoing lines must not be installed in potentially
explosive area.
This device is not considered a safety component as per
the EU Machinery Directive. It may not be used if the safety
of individuals depends on the device functioning.
Improper handling or operating the lasers outside of the
technical specifications necessitates immediate shutdown
and inspection by an authorized Balluff service representa-
tive. The device must be protected against mechanical
influences, such as shocks and vibrations, etc., at all
times.
Modifications to the laser unit or use contrary to the inten-
ded purposes are not permitted and will result in the loss
of warranty and liability claims against the manufacturer.

The line laser must be fastened with an appropriate Balluff
accessory (see Section Accessories) over the clamping
area provided.
Alternatively, the laser can be attached to the M18 thread
using the two M18x1 nuts (included in the scope of
delivery) or with an appropriate Balluff accessories (see
Section Accessories). In this case, the boresight error of
the laser increases with respect to the reference surface.
A heatsink suitable for power dissipation of up to 2.7 W
must be used depending on the modulation configuration
and output power. When a thermal connection is made,
the laser module should be fastened in the clamping area
provided.

Analog: With a voltage of 0...2 VDC at the analog
modulation input Pin 4, the intensity of the laser
light can be determined, whereas after 2 V, 100 %
of the output power will be output and with 0 V,
less than 10 %.

Principle: The inputs are voltage-proof up to 30 V. The
analog intensity control must be disconnected during
operation. For standard operation, the analog input can
remain open (internal pull-up).
Protection: Protection against overheating and a flashing
code display for warnings / malfunctions
Operation
Remove the black protective cap shortly before the laser is
emitted.
The project is focused by rotating the focus ring.
The initial steps to simple operation of the laser module
could look like the following:
1. Mount the laser over the clamping area to an appropri-
ate heatsink.
2. Connect the laser as described in the Connection
section.
3. Turn on the power supply.
⇒ The green status LED will light up after the system
starts.
4. Apply a corresponding TTL signal to the corresponding
trigger input (PIN 2) in order to star the laser beam.
⇒ The orange LED will light up.
