Structure of folders and fi les on the storage media

The folder and fi le structure for storage media is below.
•
File naming follows DCF (Design rule for Camera File System) rules.
Video fi le (H.264)
•
The HD-quality (1920x1080 25p or 1280x720 25p) videos have
an HDV_####.MP4 format.
•
The fi le number automatically increases when a new video fi le is
created.
•
Up to 9,999 fi les can be stored in one folder. The camcorder
creates a new folder when the number of fi les in a folder
exceeds 9,999.
Photo fi le
•
As with video fi les, the fi le number automatically increases when
a new photo fi le is created.
•
The maximum number of fi les per folder is the same as with
video fi les. The photos have an SAM_####.JPG format.
•
The folder names increase in this order: 100PHOTO
101PHOTO etc.
•
Up to 9,999 fi les can be stored in one folder. The camcorder
creates a new folder when the number of fi les in a folder
exceeds 9,999.
Image format
Video fi les
•
Videos are compressed in H.264 format. The fi le extension is ".MP4."
•

Photo fi les
•
Photos are compressed in JPEG (Joint Photographic Experts Group) format.
The fi le extension is ".JPG."
•
Refer to page 45 for photo resolution.

When the 9,999th fi le (i.e. HDV_9999.MP4) is created in the 999th VIDEO folder on a memory card,
no more folders can be created. Backup your fi les to a PC and format the storage media, then
reset the fi le numbering from the menu.
•
Do not modify the name of a video fi le recorded by the camcorder. Proper playback by the
camcorder requires the original folder and fi le name.
