3.5.2 Pressure sensor with 0...10 V output and 24 V power supply
Figure 5 Pressure sensor with power supply
When using a sensor with external 24 Volt power supply the signal
grounding 9 has to correspond with the grounding of the power supply
1. The pressure sensor is connected to terminal 6. There must be an
identical reference potential.
3.5.3 Serial RS 485 interface

power supply
When using an interface converter this should have more than 120
Ohm terminal resistance. To connect the terminals 4 and 5 see also
Chapter 3.3.
RS 232 /485 interface converters can also be ordered from
Gebrüder Becker.

4. Start-up and operation

4.1 Start-up

Warning!
Before connecting the VARIAIR CONVERTER to the
power supply the terminal box must be closed.
The screws of the terminal box have to be tightened with a
screwdriver observing the maximum torque of 1.5 Nm.
In certain operational modes the converter starts the
drive directly after switching on the power supply.
Basic Principles
· Before switching on the power supply the potentiometer has to be set
to the position 0 % in the control panel of the converter.
· After switching on the power supply the right LED lights up in the
5-digit LED row (Figure 6) indicating the readiness of operation.

The speed of the motor can be set by the potentiometer in the
control panel or by the analogue interface according to the respective
operating mode.
After the electrical configuration of the VARIAIR CONVERTER and
interface converter
after closing the terminal box the installation VARIAIR can be put into
operation.
Error messages during the start-up and during the operation
If the converter goes into error mode due to an inadmissible operatio-
grounding
nal mode, the drive is immediately stopped. The red LED in the control
panel lights up(Figure 7).
The cause of the error is coded by the green 5-digit LED row, shown
in the table in figure 8.
The installation can be restarted by pushing the error acknowledge-
ment button (Figure 7) in the control panel. If the malfunctioning
continues, the installation is to be separated from the power supply.

Description of the errors:
Short circuit / ground connection:
This error is detected in case of a short circuit or ground connection of
the motor or the power amplifier.
IPM excessive temperature:
Excessive temperature of the power amplifier detected
Converter excessive temperature:
Excessive temperature in the interior of the converter.
The sensor is on the µC printed circuit board.
Motor excessive temperature:
Excessive temperature of the motor. The reaction time is 3 seconds
due to plausibility reasons.
Excess-voltage:
Excess-voltage from the power supply. The reaction time is 30 millise-
conds.
Undervoltage:
Undervoltage from the power supply
2-phase operation:
One of the phases is not connected. The error is detected by way of an
excessively low intermediate circuit voltage.
Overload (I*t detection):
With this function an overload (also crawling) is detected. For this
threshold value, a maximum value and a time are parameterised. The
criterion for shutting off is not calculated on the basis of the current but
on the basis of the current-time area.
Blockage:
Blocking of the motor. The thresholds and times for this function can
be parameterised.
Watchdog reset:
This error is detected when the converter is connected and a reset
signal occurs. This could occur e. g. after a surge impulse (e. g. by
a lightning stroke into the power supply). An unintended restart can
be prevented.
