Before Using

Read the instructions carefully. They
contain important notes for the use,
safety and maintenance of the appliance.
Keep them in a safe place and transfer
them to a future user.
Only use the appliance for the purpose
mentioned in these instructions.
When using pay particular attention to
the safety advice below.

Safety Advice

• Only connect the appliance to
alternating current - with a rated
voltage according to the rating plate -
to a correctly installed earthed socket.
Cord and plug must be completely dry.
• Do not pull the connection cord over
sharp edges or jam it, do not allow it to
hang down and protect it from heat
and oil.
• Only use an extension cord of good
quality.
• Do not pull out the plug by the cord or
touch it with wet hands.
• Do not carry the appliance by the
power cord.
• Do not place the appliance and the
thermo jug onto hot surfaces, e. g. hot
plate, etc. or near an open gas flame,
the material may melt.
• Do not place the appliance onto surfaces
sensitive to water. Water splashes
might damage it.
• Do not operate the appliance without
water. Fill the water container with
cold water only up to the maximum
level indication.
Do not put water into the still hot
appliance. Let the coffeemaker cool
down for approx. 5 minutes.
• Caution: Scalding danger due to
escaping steam! Do not swivel the
filter during the brewing operation and
do not open the lid.
• The thermos jug must not be used for
keeping warm milk products and baby
food since the bacteria could multiply
uncontrollably.
• Children are not aware of the dangers
that can be caused by electrical
appliances. Therefore never leave the
appliance unattended during use. Use
and store the device out of reach of
children.
• If the following happens do not use the
appliance and unplug it immediately:
- the appliance or the mains cable is
damaged
- the appliance is leaking
- any defect after the appliance has
accidently dropped or something
similar is suspected
In these cases have the appliance
repaired.
• Disconnect the appliance if it is not
used for longer time.
• Descale the appliance regularly.
• Do not immerse the appliance in
water.
• In the case of misuse, wrong handling,
non-observance of the descaling advi-
ces or incorrect repair no liability
will be taken for possible damages.
Claims under guarantee are also
excluded in such cases.
• The appliance is not designed for
commercial purposes.
• In case the cord of this appliance is
damaged, it has to be replaced by an
authorised service agent of the manu-
facturer or a person having similar
qualifications. Substantial dangers for
the user can appear from inappropriate
repairs.
Advice for the thermal jug
The thermal jug contains 10 cups of cof-
fee à 125 ml. When filled up to the maxi-
mum, the insulation effect is the best. If
the thermal jug is partly filled or if there
are remaining quantites, the insulation
effect is reduced considerably. Prior to
preparation, it is best if the filled jug is
rinsed out with warm water.
Due to technical demands, the brewing
lid cannot be locked 100 %. Therefore,
only use the jug in vertical position,
avoid knocks and do not put it in
horizontal position.
For pouring out, only turn the lid coun-
ter-clockwise until the marking stands
over the pouring opening.
Thermal jug TK 98
(only KM 98)
The glass bulb is double-walled. Avoid
high temperature differences, otherwise
the glass piston may crack. Do not use
sharp objects for stirring or cleaning.
Also do not put tea infusers or ice cubes
in the jug. When cleaning, do not touch
the jug from inside. Do not use hard
brushes or abrasive material!

sequent damages resulting from
careless use.
Stainless-steel thermal jug EK 99
(only for KM 99)
The double-walled stainless-steel con-
tainer is absolutely fracture-proof.
Nevertheless, it should be protected
from mechanical use.
Clean the jug regularly. If some iron par-
ticles from water stick on the stainless-
steel surface, some holes might appear
on it.
Therefore, always remove these residues
immediately with a stainless-steel clea-
ning agent.
Automatic cut-out
After putting the appliance into operati-
on, an automatic cut-out ensures that
the appliance does not overheat. The
ap- pliance switches off only when the
water reservoir is empty. A prior switch-
off is only possible by pulling the plug
out. This might be necessary if the
appliance was switched on without
water. Prior to immediate re-use, it is
essential to wait some minutes for coo-
ling down.

Putting into operation

Prior to first use and after the appliance
has not been used for a long time,
operate the appliance twice with maxi-
mum water content and without coffee
powder. Then rinse the filter and the jug
with hot water. Make sure that the filter is
witin the filter holder by exerting light
pressure.
