Replacing the battery
In general, the 9V battery lasts a year at least by normal use. In rooms with high hu-
midity and/ or high temperatures, the capacity of the battery can however wear out
prematurely.
The smoke detector has a display for weak batteries and an audible "tweet". It re-
sounds in 30- 40 second intervals and lasts for at least 30 days. Replace the battery
when you hear this warning signal. Use 9 V conventional batteries exclusively (availab-
le in most household or electric appliance stores).
Recommended battery types:
Carbon-zinc battery: Eveready #216; Gold Peak #1604P (UL); Gold Peak #1604S; Gold
Peak #1604G; Premisafe #G6F22.
Alkaline battery: Eveready Energizer #522; Gold Peak #1604A; Vinnic AM9V; Duracell
#MN1604.
Lithium battery: Ultralife U9VL-J-P; FDK CP-V9J; Gold Peak CR-V9.
Danger of explosion in case of inappropriate handling of the battery. Replace-
ment only through identical or equivalent type.
The operation of the alarm should be tested with the test button whenever the bat-
tery is replaced. If the alarm fails to perate correctly, the advice of the manufacturer
should be sought.
Useful safety precautions
In specifi c situations, the smoke detector can be ineffective in its protection against
fi re. For example:
• when smoking in bed
• with children who tamper with fuses
• when handling infl ammable liquids (e.g. cleaning benzin).
Installation and fi xing
The smoke detector is designed for a simple mounting. A complete installation set is
contained in the delivery of each smoke detector.
First turn the base plate anticlockwise and detach it.
Place the base plate at the desired mounting location and mark the two bore holes
with a pen. With wood panelling or beams, drill with a 2.5 mm drill bit approx. 20 mm
deep and fi x the base plate with the screws included in the delivery.
With concrete or masonry, use a 5.5 mm drill bit and drill 25-30 mm deep.
Make sure that the anchors hold in the bore holes; if not, look for a different location
for the smoke detector or use appropriate anchors which are available in specialized
stores. Fix the base plate with the screws included in the delivery.
Connect the battery with the connecting clip and insert the battery fl at in the battery
compartment.
Fix the smoke detector to the base plate by placing it on the base plate and turn clock-
wise to lock.
The product is equipped with a safety feature, which prevents an installation of the
smoke detector on the base plate without battery inserted. If your smoke detector
does not fi t onto the base plate, then check if the battery was inserted properly.

Disposal
a) General information
Used electronic devices are raw materials and must not be disposed of in
the domestic waste. When the device has reached the end of its service
life, please dispose of it according to the current statutory requirements at
your local collecting site. Disposal in the domestic waste is not permitted!
b) Batteries and rechargeable batteries
You as end user are under legal obligation (Battery Regulation) to take back all
used batteries and rechargeable batteries. Disposing of them in the domestic
waste is not permitted.
Batteries/storage batteries containing harmful substances are marked
with the following symbol, which points out that disposal in the domestic
waste is prohibited. The designations for the relevant heavy metals are the
following: Cd = cadmium, Hg = mercury, Pb = lead. You can return used bat-
teries/rechargeable batteries free of charge to any collecting point in your
local authority, to our stores or to any other store where batteries/rechar-
geable batteries are sold. In this way you comply with the legal obligations
and make your contribution to environmental protection!
