3. Putting into operation
3.1 Battery
Your instrument is already supplied with a 9 V block battery in accordance with IEC 6 LR 61 / 6LF22.
The battery status is indicated by a battery symbol on the display (see section 5).
You need to change the battery of the device before continuing with testing when the empty battery symbol
on the display flashes.
3.2 Testing correct display and function (self-test)
In accordance with DIN VDE 0105-100 voltage testers must be checked if they function correctly, briefly before
and whenever possible after the use, for determining absence of voltage.
Step 1 – Test of the display
Press and hold button
acoustic signal occurs. Release button
Step 2 – Check test circuit and protective resistors
Hold the test electrodes together for about 5 seconds until „Rdy" appears and the green LED lights up, then the
MultiSafe DSP 3HS11 is ready for operation.
Note!
In case the function test has not been successful, check the following:
- Test electrodes short-circuited?
- Battery empty?
- Test electrode screwed tightly?
Repeat the function test: Switch on the device and hold the test electrodes together (short-circuit).
Attention!
If one of the displays fails during the self-test – even if only partial failure occurs – or if the instrument does not
indicate a function standby, the voltage tester may not be placed into operation!
4. Measuring and testing
4.1 General information
The DSP 3HS11 does not switch on automatically.
For self-tests and voltage tests the device needs to be activated with the
"TEST" appears on the display.
The instrument automatically selects the measuring range that corresponds to the applied voltage (see sec-
tion 5.) In order to save on battery the device switches off automatically after aproximately 90 seconds when
no measurement is taken.
Switch off:
Press the
switch until "oFF" appears.
4.2 Testing voltage 50 ... 11 000 V AC / 16 000 V DC
Connect both test electrodes securely with the conductor to be tested.
Attention!
The function test has to be performed successfully.
Indication:
Voltage existent:
Zero-potential:
Direct and alternating voltage, polarity
The type of voltage is indicated by the symbols "~" for AC and "-" for DC. When minus is connected to the test
electrode with display part designated with "+", then the "-" leading sign appears. When plus is connected,
then no leading sign appears left to the displayed value.
Note:
At 11 000 V AC / 16 000 V DC or more the indicated value flashes and „OL" appears in the upper display line.
Then, testing has to be stopped.
