CONNECTING ThE pDI03
All connectors are located at the rear of the unit.
1
SpEAKER
Connect a loudspeaker output of your amplifier to the INPUT jack. For
onstage use or additional mic'ing up connect a loudspeaker cabinet to the
THRU jack. This automatically deactivates the integrated dummy load. Use
high quality loudspeaker cable for both connections.
WARNING!
When using a tube amp, make sure the output impedance of your amplifier
matches the Ohms rating on your PDI03. Many amps feature an impedance
selector. Besides the classic 8 Ohms reissue Palmer offers the PDI03 with
the appropriate dummy loads for amplifiers with a single, fixed output
impedance such as 2 Ohms (e.g. Fender Super Reverb*), 4 Ohms (e.g. Fender
Vibro Champ*) or 16 Ohms (e.g. Vox AC30*).
When connecting loudspeakers, make sure they also match the amp's output
impedance.
The PDI03's dummy load has a power handling capacity of 100W RMS continu-
ous input power.
2
LINE OUT
The outputs 1, 2, 3 and 4 provide an unfiltered line level signal, i.e.
without speaker simulation, for using the amplifier as a dedicated preamp
to feed effect units separately. The ooutput can also be tracked for re-
amping
3
FILTER OUT
Use these outputs to feed the filtered signal to a mixing console. The
FILTER OUT jack provides an unbalanced signal, the XLR output signal is
BALANCED. Both outputs can be used simultaneously. The GND LIFT switch
isolates pin 1 of the XLR from the chassis ground to eliminate ground
loops.

8
SIMULATION AND VOLUME SETTING
The volume controls and filter switches are located at the front of the
unit for operating convenience.
4
FILTER VOLUME
Controls the speaker simulated output signal level.
5
DEEp / FLAT
This switch selects the low end EQ with the DEEP setting providing the
typical punch of a closed back 4x12". The FLAT position simulates the
airiness of an open back 2x12" cabinet.
6
BRIGhT / NORMAL / MELLOw
This switch selects between three high frequency characteristics. When
driving your amp hard, the BRIGHT setting lends clarity and transparency
to rhythm parts and the cutting edge to lead lines. NORMAL generates the
grainy upper midrange bite of a British loudspeaker, and the MELLOW posi-
tion simulates the softer, singing "American" tones.
Together, both switches select between 6 presets providing authentic
simulation of various speaker and cabinet types. We recommend to experi-
ment with different combinations which might lend your amp a new voice,
as well!
7
LINE OUT
Controls the unfiltered output signal level of the line outputs 1, 2, 3
and 4.
