GENERAL
The LAKE PEOPLE ADC F44 consists of a
sync unit and one or two A/D converters of hig-
hest quality, built into a single 19" case with one
height unit only. It is available in different versi-
ons, distinguished by the maximum achievable
dynamic range.
Each A/D section converts a stereophonic ana-
log input signal into a digital output signal of 24
bit width with a dynamic range of 110 or 115 dB
and 48 or 96 kHz maximum sampling rate.
The analog inputs are equipped with electroni-
cally balanced XLR terminals. Input sensitivity
is adjustable by two rotary faders on the front
panel.
Input level is displayed by two 10-segment LED
meters.
The internal sample rate can be switched to
44.1, 48 kHz (and 96 kHz) on the front panel. A
WCLK and an AES/EBU input are provided for
external synchronization.
The three digital outputs are designed to trans-
formerbalanced AES/EBU specifications (XLR)
as well as to S/P-DIF standard (Cinch and opti-
cal TOS-link).
Digital output format can be set to either consu-
mer or professional format by a frontside
switch.
THE CASE
The earthed case is made of 3mm aluminium
and 1.25mm steel sheet and therefore with-
stands even rough operational conditions.
Internal signal ground and case ground are
connected via a high-impedance R/C combina-
tion.
POWER SUPPLY
The unit is connected to mains via a built-in
IEC-CEE socket with an integrated fuse holder,
which is accessible from the outside.
The"POWER"-switch is located on the front
panel.
Power-on status is indicated by the LED next to
the "POWER"-switch.
POWER-UP
After powering the unit, a two second initializing
sequence in run which serves mainly to calibra-
te the A/D converter chip.
During power up the digital outputs ar muted
and the ERROR"-LED of the sync unit is lit.
THE SYNC UNIT
The sync unit on the right side of the case ser-
ves to generate the different clocks to operate
the A/D converter. The clock source may be in-
ternal or external.
THE EXTERNAL SYNC INPUTS
The external sync inputs are located on the rear
panel and marked to their function.
They accept AES/EBU (sync)-signals respecti-
vely WCLK signals.
- The balanced AES/EBU sync input is equip-
ped with an XLR connector and meets AES
3(11) - 1992 recommendations. It is transfor-
mer balanced, impedance 110 ohms.
The valid clock range is 28 ... 56 kHz or 108
within the 96 kHz version.
- The coaxial wordclock input is equipped with
a BNC connector.
Input impedance is selectable to 75 ohms
and 10 kohms by means of an internal jum-
per.
Ex works the impedance is set to 75 ohms.
The valid clock range is 28 ...56 kHz.
SELECTING A SYNC SOURCE
The switch to select the sync source is found on
the front panel and has three positions:
- "AES" to activate the external AES/EBU
sync input - the corresponding yellow LED is
lit.
- "INT"ernal to select one of the internal sync
frequencies.
- "WCLK" to activate the external wordclock
input - the corresponding yellow LED is lit.
