shipped, this circuitry is not active. It can be inser-
ted by setting the appropriate jumpers inside the
unit (for further information see technical adden-
dum on last page).
Input pairs E and F are electronically balanced. In-
put E is equipped with balanced jacks, input F with
XLR terminals.
Input sensitivity for all inputs can be adjusted by
multiturn trimpots on the front, in order to ensure
optimum operating level and signal purity. The ad-
justment range is +/-14 dB, thus providing perfect
matching between studio, semi-pro and even ho-
me equipment.
THE OUTPUTS
The PATCH-AMP F18 offers four stereo output
pairs (1 through 4). The corresponding terminals
are located on the rear. Each output pair is related
to a six-position rotary switch. Thus, each input
signal can be routed to each output desired. Out-
put pairs 1 and 2 are unbalanced (Cinch), outputs
3 (jack) and 4 (XLR) are balanced.
Output levels are adjustable within a range of +/-14
dB by the corresponding multiturn trimpots on the
front panel.
CALIBRATION OUTPUT
A Cinch output pair on the front panel is provided
for aligning purposes. Therefore, its level is not in-
divually adjustable. Besides level meter connecti-
on, it can be used as a fifth, fixed-level audio out-
put. Its signal, as well as the headphone program,
are determined by the corresponding rotary switch.

HEADPHONE OUTPUT

The PATCH-AMP F18 is equipped with a built-in
headphone amplifier. It it long-term short-circuit
proof and has been designed for low to medium
impedance headsets (32...200 Ohms). High-Z
headphones might also be used, yet the achie-
vable volume will be lower. Low-Z loads (e.g. loud-
speakers) should not be connected. For head-
phone connection, a 1/4" jack is provided. Sound
level is adjustable by the 'volume' control. The sig-
nal heard is determined by the source-select
switch.

PRACTICAL USE

An outstanding feature of the PATCH-AMP F18 is
the possibility of calibration for all inputs and out-
puts. This makes it possible to interface the whole
range of recorders and players without frequent
readjustment of input or output levels on the equip-
ment itself.
Basically, the PATCH-AMP's internal operating le-
vel can be chosen at will (to ensure optimum per-
formance and S/N ratio however, it should be set
around 0 dBu). This makes it possible to properly
network comsumer type and professional equip-
ment at high signal purity.
When shipped, all inputs and outputs are set to
unigain (0 dB).
Right after connection, the input levels should be
adjusted as follows:
Connect any type of audio level meter to the 'CAL
OUT' on the front panel. Choose input to be alig-
ned and adjust the measured level with a small
screwdriver at the corresponding input trimpots.
The level displayed should be 0 dBu for all inputs,
measured at nominal level input signal (usually at
0 VU).
Subsequently the outputs should be aligned. Two
procedures are possible:
1. Connect level meter to the output and select in-
put source by the corresponding rotary switch.
Apply full scale input signal and adjust output for 0
dBu, using the corresponding trimpots.
2. If the outputs are fed to recorders or console re-
turns with own level display, adjust the output level
for '0 VU' or nominal level on these level meters to
ensure optimum operating level.
