•
Underground fence supply cables should be laid in a conduit made of insulating material;
otherwise, insulated high-voltage cables must be used. Care must be taken to ensure that
the connection cables are not damaged by animal hooves or sinking tractor wheels.
•
Fence supply cables should not be laid in the same cable trench as the mains power supply
for telephone and data cables.
•
Connection cables and wires for electric pasture fences should not cross above-ground
power or communication lines.
•
Where possible, crossings with overhead lines should be avoided. If such crossings cannot
be avoided, they must be made under the overhead line and, if possible, at right angles.
•
When fence supply lines and fence wires are installed near an overhead line,
the following minimum distances should be maintained:
1.000
≤
1.000 - 33.000
> 33.000
•
When fence supply lines and fence wires are installed near an overhead power line, they
should not be more than 3 m above the ground. This height applies at all points that, based
on the original projection of the outermost conductors of the overhead power lines, are
located at the following distances from the ground surface:
– 2 m for power lines with rated voltages up to 1000 V
– 15 m for power lines with rated voltages above 1000 V
•
For electric pasture fences used to deter birds, contain pets, or train animals such as cows,
electric fence energizers with a low output power to provide suffi cient, safe performance.
•
If an electric fence energizer is used to power a wiring system intended to prevent birds from
perching on buildings, no wire should be connected to the ground rod. In addition, warning
signs should be posted where people might come into contact with the wires.
•
Fences should be erected at a suffi cient distance from telephone and telegraph lines as well
as radio antennas.
•
Where a public footpath crosses an electric pasture fence, a non-electrifi ed gate should be
installed in the fence or a fence crossing should be provided. At each of these crossings,
warning signs should be posted on the adjacent fence posts.
•
Any section installed along a public road or path must be marked at intervals of approx-
imately 50 to 100 m with warning signs that are securely attached to the fence posts or
fi rmly clamped to the fence wires. Additionally, at junctions, crossings, gates, and entrances.
•
According to VDE, the warning sign must be at least 100 x 200 mm in size.
•
The background color on both sides of the sign must be yellow. The text must be black and
must display:
– either the corresponding warning "Caution: Electric Fence"
– or the adjacent symbol.
