Installation and Operating Instructions for 3M™ AP-3 Series of Products
HOW TO FIT THE SYSTEM:
CAUTION: To reduce the risks associated with water leakage, which, if not avoided, may result in
property damage — check with your plumbing professional to verify that water pressure is less
than 125 psi.
1. Mount System
A. Fasten mounting bracket to mounting surface (screws not included). Note: 2" (5 cm) free space
underneath system required to change fi lter. B. Make sure the o-rings are present and positioned
correctly in grooves. Moisten the o-rings with water. C. Connect the cartridge to head/bracket
assembly. Align tabs with head/bracket assembly and push up until cartridge stops, then rotate 1/4
turn to the right to secure. The label should be facing forward. D. Attach vinyl vent tubing (provided)
to vent boss (Fig. 1) by pushing the tube onto the boss until it is snug. E. Run tubing from vent boss
through one of the tubing holes in bracket. Run tubing to drain or bucket during cartridge change-
out. 2. Connect System - Warning: Make sure cold water is turned off prior to installation. The
fi lter head is designed to be connected to 3/8" OD tubing using the Push In fi ttings. Ensure the
tubing meets national and local plumbing regulations. We recommend short tube lengths and no
sharp bends for optimum fi lter performance. Proper use of the push in connectors is shown in Fig 2.
The tubing should be clean, round, free from defects and be cut square using an appropriate knife
or tool. 3. Test System - A. Open the cold water supply valve and the system is now pressurised.
B. If there are any leaks from the cartridge where it connects the head or from the push in fi ttings,
close the cold water supply and check all connections and o-rings. C. Open the cold water supply
valve. 4. Flush Filter - A. Run water through the fi lter for two minutes to remove any trapped air and
carbon fi nes or until water runs clear. Any air left in the system may temporarily cause the water to
be cloudy. B. Your system is now ready for service.
HOW TO REPLACE CARTRIDGES (Fig. 3)
IMPORTANT: Change the fi lter cartridge at least every 12 months.
Note: This system is equipped with an internal by-pass valve. A. Turn cartridge slowly to the left,
about 1/4 turn, until it stops. At this position, both inlet and outlet ports are closed and water
pressure has been relieved. B. Pull used cartridge straight down and discard. Note: There may be
a small amount of residual water drainage after pressure is relieved and during cartridge removal.
C. Push new cartridge into fi lter head. Turn cartridge 1/4 turn to the right until it stops. Top surface
of cartridge will become fl ush with bottom of the head when fully engaged. D. Open down stream
valve (if installed) and fl ush new fi lter cartridge for two minutes, expelling any trapped air and
carbon fi nes. Water may run cloudy with air but will quickly clear.
