AIRFIX
Like Airfix, the RAF Benevolent Fund is a great British institution.
The charity was founded in 1919, just a year after the foundation
of the Royal Air Force. Back then its role was to look after the
airmen injured in the Great War and their families. That year
the RAF Benevolent
Fund spent E919 on welfare expenditure.
In 2012 it spent almost E22million supporting more than 68,000
people. It is still looking out for the RAF family today, delivering
a wide range of services for all the members of the RAF family
from the youngest child to the oldest veteran. Anyone who serves
in the RAF, past, present or future, is eligible for its assistance.
It could be providing a World War Two Lancaster navigator with
a mobility scooter, supporting the widow of an RAF sergeant
killed in Iraq, or helping a young man injured in Afghanistan
make the transition to civilian life. Amazingly the charity does
all this without any government support. People all over the UK
remember
the sacrifice
that the RAF has made for the nation,
and make donations large and small to ensure that their fine work
continues. Airfix also recognises the contribution of the Royal Air
Force, and proudly supports the RAF Benevolent Fund, collecting

Design a Hawk Competition
After a phenomenal response to our 2013 'Design a Hawk'
competition conducted on behalf of the RoyalAir Force Benevolent
Fund, and after days of scrutiny, the winning design was selected by
a panel of judges made up from the RAFBF and Airfix. The winning
design created by 14-year-old Heather Morien from Cramlington,
Northumberland,
was liked by the judges because of its vibrant
and fun use of the RAFBF colours. The judges commented that
there were so many excellent entries that selecting a winner was
particularly difficult, and they'd like to thank everyone for taking
part. For herbrilliant colourful design Heather received a mounted
version of her model design.
