  • Seite 8: Power Supply

Introduction Mercury is the smallest planet in our solar system. The Rega Mercury by contrast, is the largest (by component count) and most complex electronic product Rega has ever created. The origin of this circuit extends as far back as the first Rega Elicit amplifier circa 1990. The Mercury is housed in a custom-designed Rega CNC machined aluminium case offering unrivalled performance, build quality and styling.
  • Seite 9: Signal Path

Protection, control micro, display and power supply supervisory functions The Mercury has an extensive protection circuit, which monitors the DC output levels of the main and headphone output. This amplifier protection circuit works in conjunction with the supervisory circuit. The Mercury uses microcontroller based slow start, standby and a power supply supervisory circuit to power- up the generously rated toroidal transformer from standby, thus keeping the in-rush current to a minimum.
  • Seite 10 20). Please note: the record output is a buffered version of the input signal but is always at full output level. The volume control on the Mercury does not modulate this output. NEVER plug the record output directly into the Solis as this will drive the amplifier at maximum volume, potentially damaging connected loudspeakers.
  • Seite 11 Output – Connect to additional equipment’s input via 3.5mm TS jack (Note: Only connect to the input socket on other equipment!) When Mercury is powered on/off, it will trigger partner equipment to do the same if such functionality is available in other equipment. For full functionality, it is recommended to connect both input and output connections simultaneously.

12b. Standby LED – Standby state is indicated by this LED illuminating RED. If the product is on, this LED will be off but the REGA logo will be illuminated, if this LED and the REGA logo are off then either the mains switch at the back of the product is switched off, mains power is not being supplied to the product, or the mains fuses have blown.
  • Seite 13 16. Headphone Output – Capable of driving all standard hi-fi headphones (see specifications for the output levels). When headphones are connected, the pre-amplifier output will automatically be muted. IMPORTANT: It is recommended to turn down the volume of the Mercury before connecting headphones to ensure they are not damaged and to prevent potential hearing damage.

Bypass Error Indicator – [Bypass Error] will show when the [Bypass] switch and menu setting conflict (see Operation for more details, page 20). 37.
  • Seite 19 49. 12V Trigger Setting – In the menu (accessed by pressing [Menu] on the remote), you can change the 12V trigger setting to [Enabled] and [Disabled]. When disabled, the Mercury will not change power state via the trigger input. Trigger output operates as normal.
  • Seite 20 This earthing method provides a safe and efficient discharge path for any interference. The Mercury will work well on most surfaces, such as a hi-fi rack or other suitable furniture, provided there is sufficient air around it to prevent overheating. To avoid any possible magnetic interference and increased hum levels, position the Mercury as far away from turntables, phono stages, and power amplifiers as leads will allow.
  • Seite 21 Because of this, in addition to the switch on the back panel, a menu enable setting has been included in the Mercury menu system to ensure that an accidental flip of the switch does not lead to an accident. To successfully enable AV Bypass, both the menu setting and the back panel switch need to be enabled.
  • Seite 22 On windows platforms, we suggest using WASAPI or ‘Exclusive’ settings in your audio playback software to ensure the highest quality playback. If not observed, the music may sometimes go through additional filtering and re-sampling processes as part of the operating systems standard behaviour. There are third party applications on Android operating systems which achieve similar effects.
