Switching over from battery to mains supply and reverse, is automatic when connecting the mains plug to or disconnecting it from the mains outlet. When the apparatus is connected to the mains, no current is drawn from the batteries. Should the apparatus not be used with a battery supply for a considerable time it is advisable to remove the cells from the compartment to prevent the risk of damage should they leak.
