[33] AMPLITUDE control
Used for continuous adjustment of the AC ampli-
tude of the output signal at the BNC socket
OUTPUT over a range of approx. 30 dB. The am-
plitude is up to 30 V
15 V
into 50
(with Z
PP
devices and up to 20 V
for the 20 V devices. In the case of the function
DC/AMPL, the maximum gain is 16.5 dB for the
30 V devices and 14.0 dB for the 20 V devices.
The set AC amplitude can be output on the display
using the
key.

[34] BNC output socket ECL OUT
A short-circuit-proof ECL-compatible signal with
the same duty factor as the main signal is output at
the socket ECL OUT synchronous to the main out-
put OUTPUT. The signal range with an open-cir-
cuit is approx. 1 V around a mid voltage of
approx. −1.3 V. A 50
recommended at the end of a long cable. The ECL
signal is inactive in the low status (level = −1.8 V
open-circuit) with the function DC/AMPL.
[35] Z

This LED lights up when the internal impedance is
set to 600 . Switching over between 50

ing this for longer than 1 s.
[36] BNC output socket OUTPUT
Short-circuit-proof and no-load-proof main signal
output. The internal impedance is either 50
600 . Switching over of the internal impedance
is carried out using the
longer than 1 s.
[37] ATTENUATION
40 dB
The selectable fixed attenuator enables additional
attenuation of the output signal by 40 dB. It cannot
be combined with the 20 dB attenuator. The key
LED lights up when the attenuator is active. If the
key is pressed for longer than 1 s and then
40 dB
released, the internal impedance is switched over
between 50
and 600 . The Z

[38] ATTENUATION
20 dB
The selectable fixed attenuator enables additional
attenuation of the output signal by 20 dB. It cannot
be combined with the 40 dB attenuator. The key
LED lights up when the attenuator is active.

[39] I/O connector
The
signal
OCV OUT,
PENLIFT
are present on the 15-way D-SUB
INVERS
socket of the I/O connector. The signal OCV OUT
is the buffered control signal of the internal VCO
with a maximum range of 5 V. The signals
PENLIFT and PENLIFT
fast return to the start frequency occurs during a
sweep (configuration of the I/O connector → 2.5).

[40] Earthing socket
The earthing socket for 4 mm plugs is connected
to the housing and the protective earth conductor
of the mains plug.
[41] Rating plate
The rating plate shows the following data: serial
data with device No., fuse rating, power supply,
power consumption.
[42] Mains plug with fuse
This 3-pin plug for non-heating appliances is used
to connect the mains cable. A compartment for the
device fuse (type of fuse → 2.4 Technical Data) is
integrated in the plug together with an additional
compartment for a replacement fuse.

2.3.3 Operating Mode Setting

All operating mode settings are explained briefly below.
It is assumed that the device is switched on, i.e. the
green pilot LED lights up. The display or modification
of individual operating parameters is always carried out
in the same manner for all operating modes. The current
value is first output on the display with the associated
dimension by pressing the operating parameter keys
and

parameters can then be changed using the knob
MODIFY, the RANGE
key.
Common to all modes is the setting of the required sig-
nal attenuation at the main signal output OUTPUT in

2.3.4 Free-running Generator Mode

Free-running generator mode is selected if the LEDs of
the keys
,
PLL
SWEEP
light up and the FUNCTION switch is not in the
position
DC/AMPL.
DC/AMPL it is possible to switch to free-running gene-
rator mode by changing the switch position DC/AMPL
of the FUNCTION switch to one of the standard signal
functions if free-running generator mode was active
before switching to DC/AMPL. It is possible to select
free-running generator mode from the other modes by
pressing the respectively illuminated mode key which
then is extinguished.
The desired signal function can be selected using the
FUNCTION switch, apart from position DC/AMPL. The
frequency can be output on the display by selecting with
the key
; the frequency can be modified using the
FREQ
and
knob MODIFY and the RANGE
amplitude and DC offset can be output on the display by
selecting with the display keys
amplitude can be modified using the AMPLITUDE
control and the DC offset using the DC OFFSET
control; the DC offset is enabled and connected to the
main output OUTPUT by pressing the
