2.2.3 Error Messages

Test programs executed when the device is switched on,
or faulty operations on the device, may result in error
messages in numeric form. The error messages are
acknowledged either by pressing a permissible key or
by cancelling the error.

2.3 Description of Controls

The various controls and displays of the TOE 7704 to
TOE 7711A function generators on the front and rear
panels are shown at the end of the Instruction Manual
using the example of the TOE 7711A model which has
the maximum configuration. The individual controls are
explained in detail below.

2.3.1 Front Panel Controls

PLL
The operating mode PLL is selected when this key
is pressed, and a previously-selected frequency is
set with crystal accuracy. The frequency in the
display has a resolution of 4½ digits. The operat-
ing mode PLL is switched off either by pressing
the
key again (switchover to free-running
PLL
generator mode) or by pressing one of the other
mode keys such as
by setting the function switch to DC/AMPL. The
key LED lights up when PLL is active.

FREQ
The current value of the generator frequency ap-
pears in the display when this key is pressed. The
key LED lights up. The frequency can now be set
using the knob MODIFY. Decadic frequency ad-
justments are possible using the RANGE
keys. The significance of the frequency value can
be marked using the CURSOR

free-running generator mode and in PLL mode.
The frequency of the signal applied to the BNC
socket EXT IN is measured if the frequency
counter is in external mode.

key/LED
STOP
The current value of the sweep stop frequency ap-
pears in the display when this key is pressed. The
key LED lights up. The desired stop frequency can
now be set using the knob MODIFY. Decadic fre-
quency adjustments are possible using the RANGE
/
keys. The significance of the frequency
value can be marked using the CURSOR
and then can be adjusted using the knob. The
selected significance flashes to identify the cursor
position. Only effective in operating mode
SWEEP.

key/LED
START
The current value of the sweep start frequency ap-
pears in the display when this key is pressed. The
key LED lights up. The desired start frequency can
now be set using the knob MODIFY. Decadic fre-
quency adjustments are possible using the RANGE

keys. The significance of the frequency
value can be marked using the CURSOR
and then can be adjusted using the knob. The
selected significance flashes to identify the cursor
position. Only effective in operating mode
SWEEP.
[5] DISPLAY
Used in conjunction with the dimension LEDs to
display adjustable or measured operating parame-
ters such as frequency, period, voltage and gain.

MODE
The symbol for the currently set sweep mode ap-
pears in the display when the key is pressed. The
key LED lights up. The desired sweep mode can
now be set using the knob MODIFY. A linear or
logarithmic sweep can be selected in addition
using the

PERIOD
The current value of the sweep or trigger/gate pe-
riod appears in the display when this key is
pressed. The key LED lights up. The desired pe-
riod can now be set using the knob MODIFY.
Decadic adjustment of the period is possible using
the RANGE
ing mode SWEEP, TRIGGER and GATE.
