Outside air intake element ALEF 5/45 Hygro and ALEFS 5/45 Hygro
INSTALLATION AND OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS
In order to ensure complete and effective
operation and for your own safety, all of the
following instructions should be read carefully and
observed.
RECEIPT
The shipment must be checked for damage and
correctness immediately upon delivery. If there is
any damage, promptly report the damage with the
assistance of the transport company. If complaints
are not made within the agreed period, any claims
could be lost.
DESIGN
Assemblyready unit consisting of inner facade with
automatic flow rate limiter, mounting plate, insect
screen and outer cover strip. All parts made of made
of highquality plastic in white.
The ALEFS Hygro also has an acoustic element for
increased sound insulation.
APPLICATION
Outside air elements are included for mounting
on the window frame. They regulate the supply air
depending on the relative humidity of the room air.
FUNCTION
Due to the negative pressure of the extract air in
kitchens, bathrooms and WCs, the element allows
a volume of outside air to flow into the living room
and bedrooms depending on the relative room air
humidity (see diagram).

POSITIONING
The elements should be positioned in the room
geometry so that the inflowing outside air can flow
through the entire room before it is discharged on the
extract air side due to the present negative pressure.
The following should be noted:
– If possible, install the elements in the upper wall or
window area, i.e. above a height of 2 m.
– In case of window installation, it should be
positioned in the upper window frame.
– Positioning in the immediate vicinity of the heating
element is advantageous, so that the cold outside
air can mix with the rising warm air. If this is difficult
to achieve, the positioning should be selected so
that inflowing cold outside air is not disturbing.
– In principle, positioning is optimal when inflowing
fresh air mixes with outgoing warm air in the vicinity
of the heating element and it is thus distributed by
the thermal conditions in the room.
In order to ensure the total circulation within a room
unit, i.e. the outside air rate can flow from the supply
air rooms into the extract air rooms, there should be
a slit of approx. 10 mm between the door panel and
the floor covering or an overflow opening (the Helios
range includes matching, sound insulating overflow
elements) above the door.
WINDOW INSTALLATION
1. The unit should be positioned at a sufficient height
in the upper window or wing frame. Ein A distance
of 50 mm should be kept from the top edge of the
element to the lintel. If the room conditions do not
allow this positioning, positioning in the lower wing
is also possible. The element air outlet should face
upwards (to the ceiling).
2. One longer or two smaller slits should be made
in the window or wing frame according to the
following dimensional drawing. The element
mounting strip can also be used as a template.
3. The element (ALEF.. Hygro) should be placed in the
frame on the room side with the air outlet facing
upwards. To do so, first attach the mounting strip
to the frame the right way round using screws.

4. Position the weather protection strip on the
outside so that it fully covers the slit and fasten
using screws. Make sure that the rain deflector
slats are facing downwards.
INFORMATION FOR PLASTIC AND
ALUMINIUM WINDOWS
The walls of the opening, i.e. the profile through the
slit must be sprayed with installation foam and re
cut with a knife after hardening, so that the slit does
not have a thermal bridge effect on the entire frame.
Alternatively, the slit can also be covered with an
adhesive tape or film.

MAINTENANCE – FUNCTIONAL TEST
The elements are maintenancefree, but they should
be cleaned periodically for functionality. The room
side hood can be removed for this purpose. Do not
use aggressive chemicals when cleaning and do not
insert sharp objects. Simply clean with a damp cloth
and soapy water to gently clean the plastic surface.
