Intended Use

Electric belt sander with file arm for intricate light- to medium-duty sanding tasks on wood, plastic,
metal and similar surfaces using narrow sanding belts.
Unpacking Your Tool
• Carefully unpack and inspect your tool. Familiarise yourself with all its features and functions
• Ensure that all parts of the tool are present and in good condition. If any parts are missing or
damaged, have such parts replaced before attempting to use this tool
Before Use
Selecting the right grade of sanding belt
• Sanding belts are available in a variety of different grades: coarse (60 grit), medium (120 grit)
and fine (240 grit)
• Use a coarse grit to sand down rough finishes, medium grit to smooth the work, and fine grit
to finish off
• Always use good quality sanding belts to maximise the quality of the finished task
• It is advisable to do a trial run on a scrap piece of material to determine the optimum grades of
belt for a particular job. If there are still marks on your work after sanding, try either going back
to a coarser grade and sanding the marks out before recommencing with the original choice of
grit, or try using a new sanding belt to eliminate the unwanted marks before going on to a finer
grit and finishing the job
Fitting a sanding belt
WARNING: Always ensure that the tool is switched 'OFF' and the plug is removed from the
power supply before fitting or removing sanding belts.
Note: DO NOT continue to use worn, torn or heavily clogged sanding belts. Ensure foreign objects,
such as nails and screws, are removed from the workpiece before starting to sand.
WARNING: DO NOT use a sanding belt on wood that has previously been used on metal. This
may cause scouring on the wooden surface.
1 . Remove the Dust Extraction Adaptor (11)
2. Firmly push the File Arm (8) inward towards the tool body until you hear the holding mechanism
engage with a click (see Fig. I). This releases the tension on the Sanding Belt (7)
3. Remove the used belt, clean away dust and debris from the File Arm and drive pulley, and
replace with a new belt of required grit.
WARNING: Observe the rotation direction as indicated on the belt and the tool (see Fig . I) .
4. Ensure the new belt sits centrally on both the Ball Bearing (9), and the drive pulley
5 . Push the Tensioner Release Button (6) to release the File Arm and tension the Sanding Belt (see
Fig . II)
6. Rotate the Sanding Belt by hand a few times, to ensure the new belt sits centrally on the File Arm.
If the belt slides off the Ball Bearing whilst rotating, start over with step 1
7. Connect the tool to the power supply, turn the Variable Speed Dial (3) to the lowest setting, and
switch the tool 'ON' (see 'Switching 'ON' and 'OFF''), to determine if the belt runs smoothly.
Switch the tool off and start again with step 1, should the belt slide off the File Arm
6
8. Refit the Dust Extraction Adaptor
WARNING: Take care to regularly clean out the build-up of dust around the File Arm (8) and
Ball Bearing (9) and not to let the belt wear down completely before replacing it. Failure to observe
these precautionary measures can lead to damage to the File Arm and Ball Bearing. Such damage
is not covered by warranty.
Adjusting the file arm angle
WARNING: Always ensure that the tool is switched 'OFF' and the plug is removed from the
power supply before making any adjustments.
1. Loosen the Clamping Screw (5) by turning it anticlockwise, until the File Arm (8) can be moved
up and down
2. Adjust the Swivel Mechanism (10) to the desired angle
3. Tighten the Clamping Screw by turning it in a clockwise direction until hand tight
Dust extraction
WARNING: Always ensure that the tool is switched 'OFF' and disconnected from the power
supply before attaching or removing any accessories.
WARNING: Always connect the power belt file to a suitable vacuum cleaner or workshop dust
extraction system, especially if the sanding dust contains harmful substances, such as particles
from old paint, varnish, surface coatings etc. Always dispose of harmful dust according to laws and
regulations .
WARNING: Take special care to guard against harmful and toxic dusts when sanding lead-
based painted surfaces, woods and metals, particularly if you are unsure about the exact substances
involved. All persons entering the work area must wear a mask specially designed for protection
against the toxic dust and fumes involved. Children and pregnant women MUST NOT enter the work
area. DO NOT eat, drink or smoke in the work area.
• This power belt file is designed to be connected to a household vacuum cleaner hose or
workshop dust extraction system. This is the preferred and most effective method of dust
extraction
1. Install the Dust Extraction Adaptor (11) on to the machine, as shown in the product
familiarisation image above
2 . Attach a suitable vacuum hose to the Dust Extraction Adaptor . The Dust Extraction Port is
designed to fit a 32mm diameter hose
3. Switch the vacuum device on before switching 'ON' the power belt file. Switch the belt file 'OFF'
first, then the vacuum system
WARNING: Using the tool without vacuum dust extraction may expose the operator to
harmful dust, and may lead to a build-up of dust on internal components, shortening the tool's
service life. Such damage is not covered by warranty.
Operation
WARNING: Always use adequate protective equipment, including eye protection, respiratory
and hearing protection, when working with this tool.
WARNING: DO NOT touch the moving sanding belt .
Note: ALWAYS use clamps to secure your workpiece to the workbench wherever possible.
Switching 'ON' and 'OFF'
WARNING: DO NOT switch the tool 'ON' or 'OFF' whilst under load, as this will greatly
decrease the service life of the ON/OFF Switch (2).
1. Connect the plug to the power supply
2. Hold the tool securely, with both hands, one on the Main Handle (1) and one on the Auxiliary
Handle (4), to make sure you have full control at all times
3. Ensure the tool is not in contact with the workpiece before commencing with switching 'ON'
4. Toggle the ON/OFF Rocker Switch (2) to the 'I' position, to start the machine
5. Toggle the ON/OFF Rocker Switch into the '0' position, to stop the machine
WARNING: Lift the machine off the workpiece before switching 'OFF' .
WARNING: Always wait until the machine has stopped completely before putting it down.
Always disconnect from the power supply after use.
