Future Cleaning of Carpeting or Rugs: Air Out the Room During and After Vacuuming
1)
The next several times you vacuum the rug or carpet, shut off the HVAC system if you have one, close the doors to other
rooms, and open a window or door to the outside before vacuuming. Change the vacuum bag after each use in this area.
2)
After vacuuming is completed, keep the HVAC system shut off and the window or door to the outside open, as practical, for
several hours.
3)
Reasonably foreseeable improper usage, malfunctions, and hazardous failure modes.
Issue - Failure mode
Potential Effects of Failure
dose too low leading to reduced
Irradiance too low on
disinfection rate which may cause
treated surface
pathogens remain on surface
Luminaire is not on
No dose at all - thus no
driver not working
disinfection function
Lamp not working
Unintended human exposure to
UV-C light on when people
UVC, sunburn-like reaction to the
present in the room
skin and serious damage to the
cornea
Lamp is broken during
Hg from the lamp may
replacement
contaminate surface and room
Material degradation, painting
Precious goods damage
fade away due to UVC
Potential
Cause(s)/Mechanism(s) of
Failure
T ambient temperature of
application
shadowed surface
dust on surface
dust on UVC source
Longer distance between lamp and
disinfected surface
lamp replaced by different (not
Philips) lamp
luminaire is not connected
luminaire is not switched on
End of life or failure of driver
End of life or failure of lamp
Containment safeguard not
installed
Containment safeguard - check
people presence failed - Luminaire
started while people present in the
room
Containment Safeguard – After
checking room if nobody is present,
person fails to lock the room. Room
remains unlocked.
Containment safeguard - detection
sensor/presence sensor failed
Activation by non-authorized
person
Luminaire is on while relamping
Accidental fall of lamp while
relamping
Precious goods not secured while
lamp operating
Prevention
Temp monitoring, keep temperature within limits
described in product specification
Make sure treated surface will not be shadowed by
other objects
Make sure treated surface is dust free
Make sure lamp (UV-C source) is clean and free of dust
Make sure distance and irradiance level are fit
correctly for
a disinfection purpose. Irradiance decreases with
square of distance (e.g., 2x longer distance results in
4x lower irradiance)
Make sure lamp is replaced by Philips and with
frequency in accordance with lamp specification
Connect luminaire according to manual instruction
Switch on luminaire with all safety measure described
in user manual
Replace driver
Replace lamp, working lamp emits bluish light.
Checking must be done in safe manner, keeping all
safety precautions
Check training materials and user manual. Apply
minimum containment safety measures. Never
operate luminaire without containment safety
measures installed and checked they are working
Check training materials and user manual. Apply
minimum containment safety measures. Make sure
check of people presence is secured and effective
(e.g., motion and presence detector)
Check training materials and user manual. Apply
minimum containment safety measures. Make sure
locking the room before starting luminaire is secured
and effective.
Make good commissioning of your sensor(s). Make
sure other levels of containment safety are
implemented effectively (e.g. door switch shall shut
off light when doors opened)
Secure activation of luminaires can only be done by
authorized personnel (e.g. use key lock switch)
Always check and secure luminaires are off before
entering room.
Be careful and focused while relamping. Follow
replacement instruction. In case of breakage follow
instruction how to clean Hg contamination.
Make sure all precious goods are removed or
hidden/protected from direct UVC application
