Storage systems for flammable liquids are systems at risk of explosion that require
monitoring. The operator of these systems is obliged to carry out a risk assessment. If
the risk assessment has concluded that an explosive atmosphere may be created, the
following requirements must be met.
Requirements of Directive 1999/92/EC
Directive 1999/92/EC contains minimum regulations for improving work health and
safety for employees, who may be at risk due to explosive atmospheres:

Explosion protection document
Classification of areas where an explosive atmosphere may be present
Minimum regulations for improving work health and safety for employees, who may
be at risk due to explosive atmospheres as well as criteria for selecting equipment
and protection systems
The explosion protection document produced by the operator specifies the conditions at
the location of use. The operator must test in detail whether the product meets the
requirements of the explosion protection document.
