CAUTION!
●
The electronic Park Distance Control (PDC)
system has limits and blind spots and cannot
replace the driver's assessment of the situa-
tion. The driver is personally responsible for
safe parking and other maneuvers.
Always remember that the surfaces of some
●
objects and some kinds of clothing may not
reflect signals from the PDC sensors and that
these objects or people wearing such clothing
may not be correctly detected by the PDC sys-
tem or may not be detected at all.
●
Always remember that external signals can
interfere with the PDC system under unfavora-
ble conditions preventing objects and even
people from being detected.
●
Always watch out for small children and ani-
mals when backing up. The sensors may not
always be able to detect them.
●
Always make sure it is safe to back up; use
rear view mirrors and turn around or get help
as necessary.
The parking distance control system uses ultra-
sound sensors to calculate the distance from an ob-
stacle to the rear of the vehicle. There are 4 sensors
in the rear bumper for this purpose.
●
Sensor range: the shortest distance is always
reported.
Range -C- in the diagram: starting at a distance of
approximately 1.6 m, the system records obstacles
only if the car or obstacle is moving and beeps once
to signal this.
Range -B- in the diagram: when the distance reaches
approximately 1.3 m, the system also records obsta-
cles if the car is stationary and beeps intermittently to
signal this. The lower the distance, the shorter the in-
tervals between beeps.
Range -A- in the diagram: once the distance is less
than 0.3 m, the system records both while the vehicle
is stationary and when it is moving and emits a con-
tinuous tone.
To move any closer to the obstacle may mean
that the system ceases to detect it.
●
Activation: engaging reverse gear or setting the
automatic gearchange to R activates the parking dis-
tance control system. A tone is produced simultane-
ously. The parking distance control system is not
activated if a warning tone followed by an acoustic
fault code is emitted after putting the vehicle into re-
verse. If this occurs, have the system checked by a
specialist company.
●
Deactivation: by disengaging reverse gear or
moving the automatic gearchange from the R posi-
tion.
Caution
●
As the vehicle moves backward, objects that
have already been detected and signaled by PDC,
especially those that are low on the ground or high-
er above the vehicle, can get so close to the vehicle
that they are out of range and can no longer be de-
tected. The presence of these objects will no longer
be signaled. Ignoring the PDC signal can lead to ex-
pensive vehicle damage.
●
Park Distance Control may not always be able to
detect objects such as trailer hitches, thin branches,
A B C
fences, posts, etc. Objects like these can damage
your vehicle. Always check to make sure that noth-
ing is in the way when backing up.
●
The sensors in the bumpers must be kept clean
and free of snow and ice, so that the PDC and rear
hatch assist can work properly. Be careful not to
damage the sensors when cleaning with power
washers or jets of steam. The sensors can be dam-
aged if subjected to a direct stream, particularly at a
distance of less than about 4 inches (10 cm).
●
If the bulb in the reversing light is defective, the
parking distance control system does not work. De-
fective bulbs are displayed in the instrument panel
inset. Please also note the user manual for your car.
●
On some vehicles the parking distance control
system is only active when the rear lid is closed.
VOT-0689
When reversing with the rear lid open no obstacles
are reported!
Note
●
Park Distance Control works only at speeds un-
der about 6 mph (10 km/h).
On vehicles with a towing device, when reverse
●
gear is engaged or the automatic change lever set
to R, the trailer detects the obstacle and emits a cor-
responding tone.
