to touch the metal?
No, if you have scratch-sensitive
surfaces, the sensor does not
have to touch the metal.
To protect the surface, you can
put a piece of paper or a thin foil
between device and metal.
Distances up to 300µm will not
interfere with the precision of
the measurement.
