GETTING STARTED

This section explains how to play with your math learning box. It is recommended to read the complete
instruction manual for detailed instructions and safety warnings.
There are many different ways to use your operations box. Here are a few exercise ideas you can
easily do with children:
1. Reading the time
Set the wooden clock to a specific time, and ask children to read the time out loud.
You can also use counting sticks to represent the hours and the minutes.
2. Logic - Colour recognition
Give children many different coloured sticks. Ask children to pick out a red, blue,
green or yellow stick to help with colour recognition. You can also ask them to sort all
the different sticks into colour groups.
3. Geometry - The shapes game
Ask children to create different shapes with the counting sticks: stars, squares,
rectangles, triangles...Alternate between different shapes to see if they have
memorized the names and geometric forms.
5. Arithmetic – Counting Cards
Use the box's operation side to compare numbers. Give children two number cards
and ask them to compare in the slots below the clock. They can also use sticks or
the blackboard to visualise quantities better.
Another exercise is to fill out the first two columns on the right side of the operations
side and ask children to fill out the answer in the column on the right. Counting sticks
or the blackboard can also be used to help with calculations.
