Repair and maintenance

NOTICE
EN
A competent person is anybody possessing the knowledge of how to perform
repairs or maintenance work; e.g. after receiving training from the manufacturer.
In the event of doubt, ladders should be repaired by specialist companies or the
manufacturer.
In the event of repairs and the replacement of parts – e.g. feet – the manufacturer
or dealer must be contacted if necessary.
Depending on usage frequency and environmental influences, ladders must be
serviced regularly. This involves cleaning, function checks of moving parts and, if
necessary, cleaning.
Treat heavy soiling with warm water and commercially available cleaning agents,
and dry down the ladders with a clean cloth. Solvent-based cleaning agents must
not be used.
Moving parts – such as hinges, lift locks, spring bolts, etc. – are to be treated with
commercially available spray grease (e.g HHS 2000) if required.
Oil must not be used for lubrication. Make sure that rungs, steps and step pads
are not covered in grease or oil, or become so. If this does occur, clean the affec-
ted areas immediately; e.g. with some spirit.
Ladders made from wood must not be covered with opaque or water vapour-
resistant paints.
26
Repair and maintenance work to ladders must be performed by expert
personnel and in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions. And
in the case of ladders used in a professional context, they must be ins-
pected by a competent person.
