Bestimmungsgemäße Verwendung
Das Produkt ist zum Einsatz in PC-kompatiblen Notebooks mit Cardbus-kompati-
blen PCMCIA-Einschub vorgesehen und stellt dort zusätzliche Schnittstellen
(Firewire/1394) zur Verfügung.

Aus Sicherheits- und Zulassungsgründen (CE) ist das eigenmächtige Umbauen
und/oder Verändern des Produkts nicht gestattet.
Gehen Sie vorsichtig mit dem Produkt um, durch Stöße, Schläge oder dem Fall aus
bereits geringer Höhe wird es beschädigt.
Anschluss
• Starten Sie Ihr Betriebssystem und warten Sie, bis es vollständig geladen ist (z.B.
Windows ME oder XP).
• Stecken Sie die PCMCIA-Karte korrekt in den PCMCIA-Port des Notebooks. Lesen
Sie ggf. die Bedienungsanleitung zu Ihrem Notebook, wie man PCMCIA-Karten
korrekt einsetzt.
Hat Ihr Notebook mehrere PCMCIA-Ports, so ist es normalerweise unerheblich,
welchen der PCMCIA-Ports Sie verwenden.
• Wird die PCMCIA-Karte trotz korrektem Einstecken in den PCMCIA-Port nicht
erkannt, so hat Ihr Notebook vermutlich keinen Cardbus-PCMCIA-Port (tritt oft bei
älteren Notebooks mit weniger als 400MHz auf), sondern nur einen PC-Card-
PCMCIA-Port. Die PCMCIA-Karte lässt sich dann leider nicht betreiben! Verwenden
Sie evtl. testweise ein anderes Notebook.
Treiber-Installation
Windows erkennt die PCMCIA-Karte automatisch und installiert passende Treiber (in
Windows enthalten, deshalb liegt kein Treiber-Datenträger bei).
Tipps & Hinweise
• Falls 1394-Geräte mit höherer Stromaufnahme angeschlossen werden sollen (z.B.
eine externe 2.5"-Festplatte ohne eigenes Netzteil), so kann es möglich sein, dass
der Notebook nicht genügend Strom über den PCMCIA-Port liefern kann.
Verwenden Sie deshalb für 1394-Geräte mit höherer Stromaufnahme ein
eigenes Netzteil!
• Wird die PCMCIA-Karte z.B. unterwegs im Notebook belassen, obwohl sie nicht
benutzt wird, so könnte sich durch die Stromaufnahme der PCMCIA-Karte die
Akku-Laufzeit des Notebooks verringern.
• Es ist belanglos, welchen der 1394-Ports Sie zuerst benutzen.
• 1394-Geräte erlauben das Ein- und Ausstecken während dem Betrieb (bei ande-
ren Schnittstellen kann dies zu Beschädigungen führen, z.B. wenn Sie eine PS/2-
Maus während dem Betrieb ein- oder ausstecken).
Finden jedoch Datenübertragungen auf dem 1394-Port statt, z.B. wenn eine
Festplatte Daten an den PC liefert, und Sie ziehen den 1394-Stecker heraus, könn-
te der PC abstürzen und Daten beschädigt werden.

• In älteren Notebooks funktioniert die PCMCIA-Karte möglicherweise nicht, sie wird
beim Einstecken von Windows nicht erkannt, da zum Betrieb ein PCMCIA-Port mit

Cardbus-Standard erforderlich ist. Die Hardware-Erkennung von Windows findet
kein neues Gerät.
• Bei Verwendung einer externen 1394-Festplatte ist ein Partitionieren/Formatieren
unter Windows 9x normalerweise mit den MS-DOS-Kommandos FDISK und FOR-
MAT möglich. Beachten Sie die Anleitung zu der externen Festplatte.
Bei Windows XP ist die Systemverwaltung (Datenträger-Verwaltung) zu verwen-
den.
• Beim Betrieb von Digital-Video-Kameras mit 1394-Anschluss kann der PC abstür-
zen, wenn die Kamera ausgeschaltet wird oder die Kamera in den Standby-Modus
umschaltet (z.B. wenn der Akku leer wird).
Verwenden Sie zum Betrieb der Kamera ein Netzteil anstelle des Kamera-Akkus
und schalten Sie die Kamera erst nach dem Ausschalten des PCs ab, wenn bei
Ihnen dieses Problem auftritt.
• Bei manchen Digital-Video-Kameras ist nur die Video-Wiedergabe über den 1394-
Anschluss möglich, jedoch keine Aufnahme. Beachten Sie die Anleitung zu Ihrer
Digital-Video-Kamera!
• Bei der Aufnahme von Video auf sog. Digital8-Video-Kameras (bei denen die
Aufnahme lt. Anleitung möglich ist) melden Videoschnitt-Programme möglicher-
weise einen "Schreibschutzfehler" o.ä.
Dies ist zurückzuführen auf die verwendete Videocassette. Benutzen Sie testweise
eine teurere MP-Cassette anstelle einer herkömmlichen ME-Cassette. Die
Codierung der Cassette wird u.U. vom Videoschnitt-Programm falsch ausgewertet.

Intended Use
This product is intended for installation in a PC-compatible notebook with a card-
bus-compatible PCMCIA slot and there it makes additional interfaces (firewire/1394)
available.

Features
• Card-bus-compatible PCMCIA port necessary for operation; older notebooks with
PC card PCMCIA port do not recognise the PCMCIA card
• Two 1394 ports (2*6-pole)
• Driver is included in Windows and therefore there is no driver data carrier.
Safety instructions
The guarantee will lapse if damage is incurred as a result of non-
compliance with the operating instructions! We shall not be held lia-
ble for any consequential damage!
We shall not accept liability for damage to property or personal inju-
ry caused by incorrect handling or non-compliance with the safety
instructions. In such cases the guarantee will lapse.
For safety and licensing (CE) reasons, unauthorised conversion and/or modifications
to the product are not permitted.
Handle the product with care. It can be damaged through impact, blows or by being
dropped even from a low height.
Connection
• Start your operating system and wait until it has booted completely (e.g. Windows
ME or XP).
• Insert the PCMCIA card correctly into the PCMCIA port of the notebook. If neces-
sary, read the operating instructions for your notebook with respect to how you
can insert PCMCIA cards correctly.
If your notebook has several PCMCIA ports, it is normally of no consequence which
of the PCMCIA ports you use.
• If, in spite of correct insertion in the PCMCIA port, the PCMCIA card is not recog-
nised, your notebook probably has no card-bus-PCMCIA port (occurs often with
older notebooks with less than 400MHz), but only a PC card PCMCIA port. The
PCMCIA card can unfortunately not be operated! You could possibly use another
notebook to test it.
Installing drivers
Windows recognises the PCMCIA card automatically and installs the correct drivers
(included in Windows and therefore no driver data carrier included).
Tips and information
• If 1394 devices with a greater current consumption are to be connected (e.g. an
external 2.5" hard disk without its own power unit), it is possible that the notebook
cannot supply sufficient current over the PCMCIA port.
Therefore use a separate power unit for 1394 devices with a greater power
consumption!
• If the PCMIIA card is, for example, left in the notebook when you are on the road,
although it is not being used, power consumption by the PCMCIA card could redu-
ce the accumulator service life of your notebook.
• It is of no consequence which of the 1394 ports you use first.
• USB devices allow you to plug in or unplug devices during operation (with other
interfaces, this can cause damage, e.g. if you plug in or unplug a PS/2 mouse
when the PC is in operation).
However, if you unplug the USB plug when data transfer is taking place on the
USB/1394 port, e.g. if an external drive is sending data to the PC, Windows could
crash and the data be damaged!

• It is possible that the PCMCIA card does not function in older notebooks. It is not
recognised by Windows when plugged in as, for operation, a PCMCIA port with

card-bus standard is necessary. The Windows hardware recognition feature does
not find a new device.
• With an external USB/1394 hard disk, formatting/partitioning is normally possible
under Windows 9x using the MS-DOS commands FDISK and FORMAT. Observe
the instructions for the external hard disk.
The system management (data carrier management) is to be used for Windows
XP.
• For operating digital video cameras with the 1394 connection, the PC can crash if
the camera is switched off or the camera is switched over to standby mode (e.g.
if the accumulator becomes flat).
For operating the camera, use a power unit instead of the camera accumulators
and only switch the camera off after switching off the PC if this problem occurs.
• With many digital video cameras, video replay only is possible via the 1394 port,
not video recording. Observe your digital video camera instructions.
• During video recording on so-called digital8 video cameras (with which recording
is possible according to the instructions), video editing programs may display a
"write protect" or similar error.
This may be caused by the video cassette used. For testing purposes, use a more
expensive MP cassette instead of the conventional ME cassette. The cassette code
may be interpreted incorrectly by the video editing program.
