Safety Instructions
The warranty will be void in the event of damage caused by failure to
observe these safety instructions! We will not assume any responsi-
bility for consequential damage.
We do not assume any liability for material damage or personal inju-
ry caused by improper use or non-compliance with the safety instruc-
tions! The warranty will be null and void in such cases.
• The unauthorised conversion and/or modification of the product is inad-
missible because of safety and approval reasons (CE). Never dismantle
the product!
• This product is not a toy, and should be kept out of the reach of children.
• Only use in dry indoor locations. The product must not get damp or wet.
• Do not expose the product to extreme temperatures, direct intense sun-
light, strong vibrations, high humidity or strong mechanical stress.
• Do not leave packaging material lying around carelessly. It may become
a dangerous plaything for children.
• Handle the product with care, it can be damaged by impacts, blows, or
accidental drops, even from a low height.
Connection
• Connect the USB hub, via the USB cable, to a free USB2.0 port on your computer
(the computer does not need to be switched off).
If you do not have a USB2.0 interface on your computer (e.g. on the mot-
herboard or on a USB2.0 expansion card), you can also connect the USB
hub to a USB1.1 port. However, the devices connected to the USB hub (no
matter whether USB2.0 or USB.1.1) will only work at the normal USB1.1
speed!
• Windows recognises the new hardware and installs the driver automatically (they
are included in the operating system, e.g. Windows XP and higher).
Operation
The USB hub functions in the so-called „Bus Powered Mode". This means that the
current (up to 500 mA), supplied from the computer via the USB, is distributed to the
4 ports.
This is sufficient for most mice, keyboards or USB sticks.
However, USB devices with a high power consumption (e.g. external hard
drives enclosures with 6.35cm/2,5" hard drives, USB fans or similar) can-
not be operated with it. Connect such devices directly to a free USB port on
your computer.
Wall Mounting
www.conrad.com
As a special feature, there are suitable openings on the bottom of the USB hub, with
which the USB hub can be mounted on a wall.
Version 05/10
The USB hub has to be mounted so the cable is directed downwards.

Tips & Notes
• The USB2.0 hub is USB1.1 compatible. This means that normal USB1.1 devices
can be used with no problems on the USB2.0 Hub. However, this will not speed up
the USB1.1 devices!
Of course, the USB2.0 hub can also be used with a USB1.1 connection, e.g. where
your computer does not have a USB2.0 interface.
Neither in this case is an increase in the data transmission speed possible.
• To take advantage of the high speed (theoretically 480 MBit/s, i.e. 60 MByte/s), all
devices have to support USB2.0: The USB device itself (e.g. an external DVD wri-
ter), the USB hub and the USB controller inside the PC.
The theoretical maximum speed of 480 MBit/s is never achieved in practice. The
reasons are protocol information, simultaneous operation of several USB devices or
the speed limit of the connected device or the USB devices or USB controllers.
• Correct USB2.0 operation does not require a special „USB2.0 cable". Conventional
USB cables are quite sufficient, but they need to be shielded.
If transmission problems occur during the use of USB2.0 devices, you can try to use
a USB cable which has been tested for USB2.0 use („USB2.0-certified").
• Normally, USB operation is not possible in DOS or in the protected mode of
Windows.
Nevertheless, depending on the computer or BIOS /Setup settings, it possible to use
a USB keyboard and a USB mouse. It is necessary, however, to connect them
directly to the computer's USB interface, i.e. not to the USB Hub.
• USB devices can be plugged in and unplugged while the PC is in use. This means
that you do not have to switch off your computer, when you want to plug in or unplug
devices (with other interfaces this can cause damage, e.g. if you connect or discon-
nect a PS/2 mouse during operation).
If data transfers are in progress on the USB port, e.g. if an external disk is inputting data
to the computer, and you unplug the USB plug, Windows might crash and other data
may also be damaged!
For some USB2.0 devices (e.g. USB hard drives) Windows XP, Windows Vista or
Windows 7 displays an icon with an arrow in the menu bar. You can „separate" the
USB device from the computer using this function, and thus instruct the computer to
close opened files. Afterwards, the USB device can be unplugged safely.
