Non-Contact Voltage Tester
GB
Please read these operating instructions carefully
prior to operation and keep them for later reference.
1 Applications
This non-contact inductive voltage tester will detect
AC voltages of 100 – 600 V simply by applying its tip
close to the contact point. It is suited for detecting live
contacts on sockets, switches, cable cores and wires.
In addition, the VD-100 allows to quickly locate inter-
ruptions in live cables or fairy lights.
The voltage tester is also equipped with an LED
lamp.
2 Safety Notes
This voltage tester corresponds to all required direc-
tives of the EU and is therefore marked with
WARNING
Beware: This unit is used for testing
dangerous voltage!
1. When testing non-insulated contacts, wear safety
gloves to protect you from electric shock.
2. When testing non-insulated contacts, hold the
voltage tester in such a way that your fingers are
behind the protection.
3. Do not use the voltage tester if it is damaged.
Please observe the following items in any case:
The unit is suitable for indoor use only. Protect it
G
against dripping water and splash water, high air
humidity, and heat (admissible ambient tempera-
ture range -10 °C to +50 °C).
For cleaning only use a soft cloth, slightly wet, if
G
required; never use chemicals or abrasive deter-
gents.
No guarantee claims for the unit and no liability for
G
any resulting personal damage or material damage
will be accepted if the relevant safety regulations
for handling voltages higher than 42 V are not
observed or if the unit is used for other purposes
than originally intended, if it is not correctly oper-
ated, if it is overloaded or not repaired in an expert
way.
If the unit is to be put out of operation defini-
tively, take it to a local recycling plant for a dis-
posal which is not harmful to the environment.
Dead batteries do not belong in the household rub-
bish; always take them to a special waste disposal
(e. g. collection container at your retailer).

3 Operation
3.1 Inserting or replacing batteries
1) Carefully lift the clip (3) until the end piece (5) can
be removed.
2) Insert two batteries of size AAA according to the
imprint on the unit.
3) Replace the end piece until it engages.
If the voltage tester is not used for a longer period, it is
recommended to remove the batteries to prevent
damage to the unit due to battery leakage.
3.2 Voltage testing
WARNING Voltage tests in circuits with non-insu-
lated contacts must only be made by
persons able to recognize a hazard of
contact and to take the required safety
precautions.
In case of measurements with a hazard of contact,
.
avoid working on your own. Ask a second person to
assist.
To check the correct function of the voltage tester,
always start by testing a known voltage first!
For testing, hold the tip (1) close to the contact to be
tested or to the cable to be tested. When a voltage is
detected, the front part (2) of the voltage tester will
light up and a buzzer will sound.
Attention: If no voltage is detected, this will not guar-
antee that the contact or the cable is free of dangerous
voltage! The VD-100 will not detect AC voltages below
100 V or DC voltages. The voltage tester may fail to
detect a voltage when the cable is screened or when
the tip is too far away from the contact. Exhausted bat-
teries may also be the cause when the voltage tester
fails to respond.
3.3 LED lamp
Press the button (4) to switch the LED lamp (6) on or
off.
