Excessive ash shortens the life of the grate and affects the combustion. Close all devices that might
cause low air pressure outside the fireplace (e.g. exhaust air removers and range hoods). Ensure that
the damper plate is closed when there is low air pressure in the room. The damper plate may remain
open during ash removal to prevent ash being blown into the room.
The fireplace has an ash box. The ash falls through the grate into the ash box, which is emptied when
it gets full.
When the fireplace is used according to instructions, there is little need for chimney sweeping. The
normal schedule is once a year.
The grate must be cleaned when the ash is removed.
The grate can be removed by lifting. During re-installing, remember to slip the grate's peg through the
regulator's loop.
For fire safety reasons it is important to keep an eye on the soot accumulation in fireplace and
chimney.
The flame regulation and side insulation plates must be removed during chimney sweeping. (section
3.3.3)
The chimney is swept in the usual manner and the furnace walls are brushed clean with a steel brush
or something similar.
If the chimney has been connected to the top of the fireplace, the soot falls into it and is removed in
the same way as the ashes.
After the sweeping, the flame regulation plate is reinstalled.

5. Troubleshooting

The fireplace leaks smoke right after installation or after long term use:

The chimney's length must be over 3.5 m with a surface are of 120–180 cm²

Is the damper plate open? Open the chimney's damper plate.

Check whether the chimney has been swept and that there are no obstructions in it. Remove
obstructions/sweep chimney.

External circumstances, such as a nearby house or park may influence the chimney's draught
properties. Lengthen chimney.

Check the seals of the exhaust flue connection. Reseal the attachments.

During the ignition phase and the proper heating, a suitable humidity for the firewood is 15-20 %.
Use sufficiently dry wood.

The apartment has devices that cause low air pressure such as air conditioning or a range hood.
Turn these off or open a window during the ignition phase.

The chamber above the flame regulator plate has not been cleaned after the chimney sweeping.
Remove the insulation plates from the furnace and clean it.

Is the combustion air regulator open? Open the regulator and grate completely for the ignition
phase.

A wind gust may weaken the draught for a moment.
A lot of soot accumulates on the glass:
Some soot always accrues during use. Reasons for strong soot accumulation may be:

The wood is moist and produces a lot of smoke.

The burn temperature is too low, which means that draught is weak and the wood burns badly and
produces soot.
Light and run the fireplace according to instructions, that is use enough wood during burning. Add
wood on the embers to get quick ignition. See that the wood humidity is correct.
