Stereo Patch Box
1 Safety Notes
This unit is only suitable to pass on audio signals
below 42 V/1 A.
Protect the unit against humidity and heat (permis-
sible operating temperature range 0–40 °C).
For cleaning only use a dry cloth to remove dust,
by no means chemicals or water.
If the unit is used for purposes other than originally
intended, if it is connected in the wrong way or not
repaired by authorized personnel, no liability can
be taken over for possible damage.
2 Applications
Patch boxes are always used where extensive
connections between audio units are necessary and
these connections are easily to be changed. This unit
has especially been designed for rack installation. For
this 1 rack space (= 44.5 mm) is necessary. Via all
signal ways unbalanced stereo signals and balanced
or unbalanced mono signals can be routed.
Examples of application:
1. Inserting of an effect unit each into 24 signal ways
2. Combining and routing of 48 inputs resp. outputs
3. Splitting of 24 signals to two outputs each
4. When using suitable Y cables (e. g. MONACOR
MCA-202) according to application up to 96 unbal-
anced mono signal ways are available.
5 Combining and Routing of Inputs resp. Out-
puts
To be able to easily change signal ways of audio units
among each other, the connections of the units are
combined via the patch box. In addition, the connec-
tions can be routed from the rear side of a rack to the
front side at the same time. By this way of application
48 signal ways are totally available.
In this chapter it is assumed that the plug-in cards
have not been turned and that the grey jacks are at
the rear side in the lower row. All indications like e. g.
"above" or "rear side" refer to this position.
1) At first always connect the grey jack at the rear
side. Thus the signal way between jacks A and B is
opened up in each case, so that there are two sig-
nal ways.
2) The upper jacks A of the same channel can now be
used for a further signal way.
6 Splitting of Signals to Two Outputs
Up to 24 signals can be splitted to two outputs. The
grey jack must not be connected.
1) Connect the output of the signal source to one of
the three black jacks of a channel.
2) The signal can now be picked up at the other two
black jacks of the same channel.
7 Doubling of Signal Ways
When using suitable Y cables (e. g. MONACOR
MCA-202) according to application 96 unbalanced
mono signal ways are available. Thereby each signal
way pair has a common ground.

3 Rearranging of the Individual Plug-in Signal
Way Cards
The patch box has been constructed for the signal
ways 1–24 with one plug-in card each for one signal
way. Each card is equipped with two
front and rear side. One of the jacks is grey-coloured.
When supplied ex factory, all grey jacks are located at
the rear side.
As long as the grey jack is not connected, all four
jacks of one signal way are connected with each
other.

As soon as the grey jack is connected, the connection
between the upper and the lower jacks is interrupted.

According to application it may be more practicable if
the signal way between the upper and lower jacks is
interrupted by a front side connection (e. g. when
effect units are inserted into the signal ways). For this
each plug-in card can individually be turned, so that
the respective grey jack is at the front side:
1) Loosen the lower two of the four screws for rack
mounting and remove the front cover plate.
2) Pull out the desired plug-in cards individually to
turn and to insert them the other way round, so
that the grey jack is at the front side in the upper
row.
3) Tightly screw the front cover plate again.

4 Inserting of Effect Units
In this chapter it is assumed that the plug-in card for
the signal way to insert an effect unit has been turned
and that the grey jack is at the front side in the upper
row (see chapter 3). All indications like e. g. "above"

or "at the rear side" refer to this position.
At first establish the signal way without the effect unit:
1) Connect the output of the signal source (e. g.
mixer) to the upper rear jack.
2) Connect the lower rear jack of the same channel
with the input of the following unit (e. g. amplifier).
Thus a signal way is established.
Insert the effect unit (e. g. equalizer) into this signal
way:
3) Connect the input of the effect unit to the grey
jack A at the front side of the channel. Thus the
signal way is opened up.
4) Connect the output of the effect unit with the lower
front jack B of the same channel. The effect unit is
now inserted into the signal way.
5) If the effect unit is to be removed from the signal
way again, take the plugs out of the front jacks of
the channel.
