Installation
If you do not have thorough knowledge on the installation of this product, have the installation
carried out by a professional or in a specialist shop!
Incorrect installation of the product will cause damage to the product, your computer and all
connected devices.
Caution, Risk of fatal injury!
Turn off the computer in which you wish to install the product, and all connected devices.
Disconnect all devices from the power supply by unplugging them. Simply turning off the devices
using the on/off switch does not mean a device is voltage-free!
• Open your computer's case and remove the lid carefully.
• Search for a free PCI Express slot, remove the respective slot cover and insert the PCI Express card into the PCI
Express slot. Screw in the PCI Express card, make sure it is fitted correctly to the PCI Express slot!
A low-profile slot bracket is included for installation of the product in flat computer cases. Remove the
long slot bracket from the card and then mount the short low-profile bracket.
• The 19-pin USB 3.0 port is intended for connecting a fitting adaptor or a fitting cable (both not included) that has
one 19-pin USB 3.0 connection on the input side and two USB 3.0 ports on the output side. This converts the PCI
Express card's 19-pin USB 3.0 port to two normal USB 3.0 ports.
• Connect the suitable plug of your PC mains adapter to the respective port on your PCI Express card. When
plugging in the product, heed correct polarity and do not exert any force.
When not connecting the power supply to the PCI Express card, none of the connected USB devices
will function!
• If necessary, fasten all cables using cable ties to prevent them from hanging into your computer's CPU fan.
• Re-close your computer's case.
Version 10/13
• Connect your computer and monitor to the power supply, and turn on all devices.
• If your computer does not start up normally, turn it off immediately, and check all settings and cable connections.
Before reopening your computer, disconnect it from the power supply; see above!
Driver installation
• After Windows® has started, it will automatically identify the PCI Express card as new hardware.
• Insert the included CD into the correct drive on your computer and click the button Install Driver. Follow the
instructions on the screen.
• It might be necessary to restart Windows® in order for the USB 3.0 ports on the PCI Express card to function
properly.
Windows® 8 does not require driver installation.
Connecting USB devices to the PCI Express card
Important:
It is necessary to connect the power connector of the PCI Express card to a suitable power connector
on your PC mains adapter.
Otherwise the USB devices connected to the PCI Express card will not be identified properly!
a) USB 2.0/1.1 devices
• A USB 3.0 port also supports "old" USB 2.0/1.1 devices. Simply connect the USB device to one of the PCI Express
card USB ports.
• Use USB 2.0/1.1 connection cables to connect USB 2.0/1.1 devices.
• USB 2.0/1.1 devices will not work faster when operated from a USB 3.0 port. However, if your mainboard's USB
2.0 controller works relatively slowly, it is possible that, for instance, USB 2.0 hard drives connected to one of the
PCI Express card USB 3.0 ports may transfer data faster.
b) USB 3.0 devices
• Connecting a USB 3.0 device to the PCI Express card requires a USB 3.0 cable. The USB-A plug may look like a
USB 2.0/1.1 plug at first glance, however it has additional connection contacts. A USB B plug on a USB 3.0 cable
has a different form.
• To use the USB 3.0 at its full speed, in addition to a USB 3.0 port on your computer, you also need a USB 3.0
device and a fitting USB 3.0 cable.
• USB 3.0 provides a theoretical transfer rate of 5 Gbit/s (equaling to approx. 600 MByte/s). The transfer rate
reached in practice, however, depends on the devices between which files are being transferred (internal and
external hard drive), the type of files (many small files or a few large files) and many other factors.
Disposal
Electronic devices are recyclable waste and must not be disposed of in the household waste.
At the end of its service life, dispose of the product according to the relevant statutory regulations.
You thus fulfil your statutory obligations and contribute to the protection of the environment.
