Installation
If you do not have any specialist knowledge about installation please have installation
carried out by a professional or a corresponding specialist workshop.
The plug in card as well as your computer and all connected devices will be damaged
by improper installation.
Switch off the computer in which the plug in card is to be inserted and all connected
devices and disconnect all devices from the power supply. Pull out the mains plug! Sim-
ply turning off the devices using the on/off switch does not mean a device is voltage-
free!
• Open your computer's case and remove the lid carefully.
• Look for a free PCIe slot, remove the .corresponding slot bracket and insert the USB card into
the PCIe slot. Screw the USB card tightly (if necessary the computer casing used by you offers
screwless assembly).
• Connect the power connection to the USB card with a suitable plug of the PC power supply.
A suitable adapter is required if the PC power supply has no suitable free plug (not in
the delivery scope of the USB card).
• For instance connect the USB3.0 cable of your computer casing, which leads to the correspond-
ing USB3.0 sockets on the front or upper side of the casing, to both the internal USB3.0 ports.
The USB2.0 cable can also be connected to the internal USB3.0 ports of the USB card if
your computer casing still has no USB3.0 connectors. However, the USB devices con-
nected later will not be faster.
Upgrade the corresponding internal USB3.0 cable/connectors in so far as this is pos-
sible for your computer casing.
Please ensure that the cables do not reach into the ventilator of the computer. Secure
these with cable connectors.
• Reclose your computer's case.
• Reconnect the computer and monitor to the supply voltage and switch on all devices.
• If your computer does not start up normally, turn it off immediately and check all settings and
cable connections.
This should be disconnected from the supply voltage before reopening the computer,
see above.
Driver installation
Windows automatically recognizes the plug in card. Interrupt the automatic search for the drivers
or the hardware recognition.
Install the data carriers delivered in the corresponding drive of your computer. Open the main
directory of the data carrier e.g. with the data manager of windows, if the installation does not
start automatically.
Start the installation program with a double click (e.g. start "autorun.exe"; depending on the
content of the CD and the driver version). Follow all instructions of the installation program or of
windows.
A restart is necessary on connecting the driver installation before the USB card functions fault-
lessly.
Tips and notes
Important:
The power connector of the USB card must be connected with a corresponding plug of
your PC power supply. Otherwise USB devices connected to the plug in card will not be
correctly recognized.
• USB2.0/1.1 device
Of course all "old" USB2.0/1.11 devices can be operated at a USB3.0 port. Simply connect the
USB device to the USB port of the plug in card.
Conventional USB2.0/1.1 connection cables should be used for the connection.
Normally USB2.0/1.1 are not faster when operated at a USB3.0 port of the USB card. However,
if the USB2.0 controller works relatively slowly on the mainboard it is, for instance, possible to
transfer data from the USB2.0 hard disk to a USB3.0 port of the USB card.
• USB3.0 device
A USB3.0 cable is required if a USB3.0 device is connected to the plug in card. Indeed, at first
glance the USB3.0 plug looks similar to a conventional USB2.0/1.1 plug however, has additional
connector contacts inside.
By contrast the USB-B plug of a USB3.0 cable has another design.
A USB3.0 hard disk casing can also be operated via a conventional USB2.0/1.1 cable to a
USB3.0/2.0/1.1 port. However, a faster data transfer is not possible.
Not only a USB3.0 controller is required, but also a USB3.0 terminal and a suitable USB3.0 cable
to be able to use the fast data transfer of USB3.0
USB3.0 offers a theoretic transmission speed of 5GBit (converted approx 600MByte/s). How-
ever, the actual speed reached during operation will depend on the devices transferring data
(internal and external hard drive), the type of data (many small files or few large files) and many
other factors.
Each USB3.0-Port of the USB card provides an output current of 900 mA.
Disposal
Electrical and electronic devices do not belong in the household waste.
At the end of its service life, dispose of the product in accordance with applicable
regulatory guidelines.
