Power Capacitor
GB
1 Applications
The power capacitor serves for stabilizing the supply
voltage for high power amplifiers in an individual 12 V
mains with rechargeable battery to improve the music
reproduction.
2 Safety Notes
The
capacitor
corresponds
89/336/CEE for electromagnetic compatibility.
Connection of the capacitor to the 12 V mains must
be made by qualified skilled personnel only. Special
care must be taken when connecting the capacitor.
In case of short circuits there may be dangerously
high currents.
The capacitor must be mounted to a mechanically
stable place. It must be skilfully fixed so that it does
not get loose and turn into a dangerous projectile.
Protect the capacitor against humidity and heat
(admissible ambient temperature range -20 °C to
+60 °C).
For cleaning only use a dry, soft cloth, by no means
chemicals or water.
If the capacitor is used for purposes other than orig-
inally intended, if it is not connected correctly or not
repaired in an expert way, no liability can be taken
over for possible damage.
If the capacitor is to be put out of operation defini-
tively, it must be disposed of in a local recycling
plant for disposal which is not harmful to the en-
vironment.

3 Mounting and Connection
The cables between the capacitor and the power
amplifier should be as short as possible and show a
large cross section*. Lay the cables so that their insu-
lation may not be damaged. For the connection of the
capacitor two cable lugs (a) are supplied.
1) Tightly screw the capacitor with the supplied
brackets as close as possible to the power ampli-
fier at a mechanically stable place.
2) The connection is shown in fig. 2. Connect the
negative terminal of the capacitor via a cable to the
to
the
directive
ground of the 12 V mains. To avoid a ground loop,
choose the same place at which also the power
amplifier is connected to ground.
3) Connect a cable with a sufficient cross section* to
the positive pole of the battery.
Important!
Always insert a fuse* close to the battery as a pro-
tection against short circuits (see fig. 2).
For the first charging, connect in any case the
positive cable of the battery and the positive pole
of the capacitor via the supplied incandescent
lamp to avoid damage due to excessive current
peaks.
After the charging which takes some seconds,
connect the positive cable of the battery directly to
the positive terminal of the capacitor. Lay another
cable from the positive terminal of the capacitor
to the supply voltage connection of the power
amplifier.
4 Indicating Elements (fig. 1)
1 The LEDs light up blue if the capacitor is charged
or discharged.
2 The digital voltmeter shows the applied voltage
(3 digits, with one digit after the point)
No voltage indication?
In certain cases the switching-on automatics must
be readjusted. See chapter 5.2.

5 Fine Adjustments
5.1 Voltage indication
If several capacitors are connected in parallel, each indi-
vidual capacitor can indicate a slightly different voltage
due to tolerances. With the trimming potentiometer
ADJUST (b) adjust the capacitors among each other to
the same voltage indication. A precise digital voltmeter
should be used to exactly determine the applied voltage.
5.2 Switching-on automatics for the voltage indi-
cation
To prevent a slow discharging of the battery due to the
permanent lighting of the voltage indication (2), the
CAP-12XHQ is equipped with a switching-on automat-
ics. This switches on the display as soon as the inter-
nal sensor finds a bounce of the 12 V mains of
-50 mV (e. g. when switching on the power amplifier
or other consumers). If the sensor does not find a
bounce any more after all consumers have been
switched off, the display extinguishes.
1. In case of especially strong and new batteries the
bounce may be below 50 mV when switching on
consumers, and the voltage indication does not
switch on. In this case increase the sensitivity
adjustment of the sensor: turn the trimming poten-
tiometer SENSOR (c) clockwise.
2. For permanent lighting of the voltage indication e. g.
for presentations, turn the trimming potentiometer
SENSOR clockwise up to the stop to maximum
sensitivity.
