Plasma Disk
1 Applications
The plasma disk serves to generate light effects and
can be installed e.g. in discotheques, party rooms, or
shop windows. "Flashes of lightning" pass across the
disk. These flashes can be influenced by touching the
disk or, via the integrated microphone, by music or
speech.
2 Safety Notes
The plasma disk and the plug-in power supply unit
correspond to the directive for electromagnetic com-
patibility 89/336/EEC. The power supply unit ad-
ditionally corresponds to the low voltage directive
73/23/EEC.
The power supply unit is supplied with hazardous
mains voltage (230 V~). Leave servicing to author-
ized personnel only. Inexpert handling may cause
an electric shock hazard. Furthermore, any guar-
antee claim will expire if the power supply unit or
the plasma disk has been opened.
Please observe the following items in any case:
The plasma disk and the power supply unit are only
suitable for indoor use. Protect them against humi-
dity and heat (admissible ambient temperature
range 0 – 40 °C). It is essential to keep the plasma
disk away from water and other liquids.
Even with the plasma disk switched off, the power
supply unit connected to the mains voltage still has
a low current consumption.
Do not operate the plasma disk or immediately dis-
connect the power supply unit from the mains
socket
1. if there is visible damage,
2. if a defect might have occurred after the unit was
dropped or suffered a similar accident,
3. if malfunctions occur.
In any case the plasma disk and the power supply
unit must be repaired by skilled personnel.
For cleaning only use a dry, soft cloth, by no means
chemicals or water.

If the plasma disk or the power supply unit is used
for other purposes than originally intended, if it is
not operated in the correct way or not repaired by
authorized personnel, no liability for any damage
will be accepted.
If the plasma disk and the power supply unit are to
be put out of operation permanently, take them to a
local recycling plant for disposal.
3 Setting up the Plasma Disk
1) Fold out the set-up bracket (3) completely (arrow A
in fig. 1).
2) Clip the two locking brackets (2) [folded into the
set-up bracket on the left and on the right] into the
corresponding hooks (arrow B in fig. 1).
3) Place the two rubber feet (to be found in the
packing of the plug-in power supply unit) onto the
disk at an equal distance from the centre (accord-
ing to fig. 2) so that the disk has a firm stand.
4 Operation
Connect the low-voltage plug of the supplied power
supply unit to the 12V DC jack (1) and then the power
supply unit to a mains socket (230 V~/50 Hz). If the
plasma disk is not used for a longer period, dis-
connect the power supply unit from the mains socket
as it always has a low current consumption.
4.1 Manual operation
1) Slide the function switch (5) to the position
MANUAL.
2) Turn the PATTERN control (4) fully clockwise.
3) Adjust the flash frequency with the SOUND SEN-
SITIVITY control (7).
4) Touch the disk with one or more fingers to influence
the flashes.
4.2 Music-controlled and speech-controlled oper-
ation
1) Slide the function switch (5) to the position AUTO.
2) Turn the two controls PATTERN (4) and SOUND
SENSITIVITY (7) fully counter-clockwise. Thus, the
plasma disk is set to minimum.

3) Turn the PATTERN control clockwise until the disk
displays a motionless flash.
4) The sound is recorded by the microphone (6). Turn
the SOUND SENSITIVITY control clockwise until
the flashes respond to the music or the speech.
Note: The response of the flashes largely depends
on the type of music and its volume. If required, use
the two controls for an alternate fine adjustment. If
the volume of the music is changed, the SOUND
SENSITIVITY control must be readjusted as well.
5) The flashes can additionally be influenced by
touching the disk.
