Driver/Software Installation
The drivers included are only required for the SIM card reader integrated in
the card reader.
The drivers for reading/writing of common memory cards (SD, MS, etc.) are
integrated in the operating system.
Switch on your computer and wait until the operating system has booted completely.
Place the CD supplied in the appropriate drive on your computer. If the installation pro-
gramme does not start automatically, you must start it manually e.g. in the Windows
File Manager (the installation programme in the main directory of the CD is named e.g.
"autorun.exe" or similar).
Follow all instructions of the software or the operating system.
Connection
First install the driver and the software of the CD supplied, unless done al-
ready.
Connect the card reader to a free USB port on your computer or a USB hub.
When first connected to the computer, Windows recognises the card reader and com-
pletes the driver installation.
If the connection is made without any faults, the power LED lights.
Important information for Windows 7:
Further steps for installation are necessary when using the operating system Win-
dows 7 so that the SIM cards can be read/written on.
Proceed as follows:
• If not done so yet, install the driver/software first as describe above in the chapter
"Driver/Software Installation".
• Connect the card reader to the computer. Windows 7 then does not find a required
driver and recognises an "eHome" infrared receiver instead (Windows 7 then sig-
nals that the installation failed).
• Open the Device Manager in the Control Panel.
To do this, select the function "Hardware and Sound" under "Control Panel".
Click on "Device Manager".
• The "eHome infrared receiver (USBCIR)" is not labelled with an exclamation mark
under "USB Controller", as Windows 7 was unable to start the hardware.
• Click on "eHome infrared receiver (USBCIR)" with the right mouse button and select
"Update Driver Software...".
• Then select "Search for driver software on the computer".
• Click on "Select from a list of device drivers on the computer".
• The following dropdown menu may include e.g. "eHome infrared receiver (USB-
CIR)" and "USB connection device".
• Click on the entry "USB connection device" and "Continue".
Now the driver will be installed correctly; Windows signals "The driver software
was updated successfully".
• Click on "Close". Thereafter, the product is also available under Windows 7 with all
its functions.
Reading/Writing to Memory Cards
The memory card is integrated into the system in the same way as a conventional
removable media drive.
With Windows file manager you can now read the data on the memory card (or store
data on the memory card), in the same way as you use the hard disk or a USB stick.
The access LED lights steadily when a memory card is inserted or flashes during read/
write access.
Reading/Writing from or to SIM Cards
Start the software "SimEdit" and then insert a SIM card in the appropriate slot of the
card reader. With the software, you can read and edit data from the SIM card; the data
can also be copied back to the SIM card.
Removing a Memory Card, unplugging a Card Reader
If a read/write access is underway to the memory card, wait until it is finished.
Only then can a memory card be removed from the card reader or the card reader can
be disconnected from the computer.
If the memory card is removed during read/write access or the card reader
is disconnected from the computer, data on the memory card may be dam-
aged. The same applies to a SIM card.
Tips & Notes
• Ensure that the read-only access (slide switch on the memory card; if available) is in
the off position when deleting from, or writing to, SD/MS memory cards.
• Use preferably a USB2.0 port for connecting the card reader.
The maximum data signalling rate used by USB1.1 is only about 800kByte/s.
With USB2.0, several MByte/s are possible, depending on the speed of your memory
card! Thus, for faster transfer always use a USB2.0 port for the card reader (a tre-
mendous saving of time during data transfer).
• The power LED lights while the card reader is supplied with power, the access LED
lights if a memory card is inserted or flashes during read/write processes.
• Always remove the memory card or the SIM card first, before switching off the com-
puter.
• Some memory cards (e.g. older CF cards) require more current for operation. Thus
use a USB port that can supply a current of 500 mA, e.g. the USB port on a computer
or the USB port on a USB hub with its own power adapter.
Disposal
Please dispose of the device when it is no longer of use, according to the
