Setup
a) Preparation for mounting
The escape route sign must be secured with a 10/16A fuse in the on-site
sub-distribution unit. An earth circuit fault interrupter must be installed before this
(FI protective switch).
The installation of the escape route sign may only be carried out in a voltage/
current-free state. Make sure that the product is disconnected from the mains!
Caution! The product must only be installed by a qualified electrician who is familiar
with the relevant regulations (e.g. VDE)! By carrying out improper work on the mains
voltage you endanger not only yourself, but also others! If you are not sure how to
install the product, consult a specialist. Do not attempt to install it yourself.
• Plan the installation site carefully so that the escape route sign is in the desired position
after installation.
• Only install the escape route sign on a stable surface. Depending on the surface, suitable
screws and dowels must be used.
• Isolate all poles of the mains cable from the mains supply by removing the electric circuit
fuse or switching off the circuit breaker. Then turn off the earth leakage circuit breaker.
Protect it against an unauthorised restart, e.g. with a danger sign.
• Check that the mains cable is free of current, e.g. with an appropriate testing device.
b) Installation and connection
Ensure that you do not damage cables or wires when drilling holes or tightening
screws. Accidentally drilling into electrical cables can cause a fatal electric shock!
• Remove the ceiling bracket (2) from the housing. To do this, carefully press into the snap-in
openings (3) on both sides using a suitable flat-head screwdriver and remove the ceiling
bracket upwards. As shown in Figure.
• The ceiling bracket has pre-marked drill holes. Drill at least two holes for ceiling bracket in
the pre-marked drill holes.
• Use the ceiling bracket as a template for the holes in the ceiling.
• Suitable fastening material (screws, dowels) is available from specialist retailers.
• Release the cable grip from the ceiling bracket.
• Plug the on-site supply cable through the cable opening (1) (Ø 16 mm) of the ceiling bracket
and connect the wires of the supply line with the 4-pin terminal block (brown = L/phase,
black = LS/phase switch, blue = N/neutral conductor, yellow-green = PE/protective earth/
earthing symbol). Then attach the cable grip. As shown in Figure.
Cable grip
• Screw the ceiling bracket to the ceiling.
• Place the housing (4) on the ceiling bracket until it snaps into place.
Mains cable max. Ø 16 mm
c) Insert and replace the pictogram
Insert the pictogram
• Select the correct pictogram (7) and insert it. The pictogram is held on the sides and bottom
so that it cannot slip out. Do the same on the opposite side.
• Remove the pictogram by pulling it out in the opposite direction.
d) Switch on and check the escape route sign
• Turn on the power and check that the CHARGE LED (6) lights up green. If the LED does
not light green, check the cable connections for proper connection. A green LED indicates
that the rechargeable battery is charging. Charge the rechargeable battery for 24 hours.
• Then, check that the battery works in case of a power interruption and the escape sign
LEDs are on. To simulate a power interruption, press the TESTbutton (5). This will interrupt
the power supply. The CHARGE LED goes out. The LEDs of the emergency light go out
briefly (about 1 second) and should then light up again.
• It is recommended to do this check once a month. The test result can be entered in the table
on the last page of this manual.
• If the LEDs do not light up, check the rechargeable battery cable connection. If the
connection is OK, the battery must be replaced.
• Press the TEST button again to reconnect the escape sign to the mains. The CHARGE LED
lights up in green. The product is ready for operation.

Replacing the rechargeable battery

Warning! The rechargeable battery may only be replaced by a qualified electrician
(electrician) who is familiar with the relevant regulations (e.g. VDE)!
• Check the rechargeable battery for correct function at regular intervals. The rechargeable
battery must be replaced after 4 years at the latest.
• Disconnect the electrical power supply at all phases. The mains supply line must be
de-energized.
• Remove the housing from the ceiling bracket. See illustration in Section "Installation and
connection".
• Disconnect the rechargeable battery plug connector from the circuit board before removing it.
• Remove the rechargeable battery and replace it with an equivalent rechargeable battery.
As shown in Figure.
Carefully press against the battery holder
with a flat-head screwdriver to remove the
rechargeable battery.
• Charge the rechargeable battery for 24 hours.

Care and cleaning

• Never use aggressive detergents, rubbing alcohol or other chemical solutions, as these
may damage the casing or cause the product to malfunction.
• Use a dry, lint-free cloth to clean the product.
• Perform a functional test at regular intervals.
