the vehicle ground. Use an insulator to cover the terminal to protect it from accidental
contact with the negative cable or vehicle's chassis. Failure to cover and protect the
positive cable terminal may create a short circuit and cause damage to the ECU or
vehicle's electrical system and loss of vehicle memory.
WARNING
through the OBDII port if the vehicle's current draw exceeds the vehicle specifications
when the vehicle is in a KEY OFF condition. Some newer vehicles continue to draw
power for an extended period of time (cooling fans, alarms, etc.). Consult the vehicle
manufacturer's specifications to determine the vehicle's exact current draw with all
accessories off, then use an amp clamp to determine the actual current draw. The
Memory Saver cannot be used on vehicles that draw more power than the smallest fuse
in the OBD circuit, ECU circuit or vehicle's electrical system. Exceeding this fuse rating
may damage the OBD, ECU and/or vehicle's electrical system.
4.2
USING THE MEMORY SAVER
Review the warnings in Section 4.1 before using the Memory Saver.
1. Connect the Memory Saver's OBD connector to the vehicle's OBD connector. Make
sure the connector is fully engaged.
2. Disconnect the vehicle's battery cables and cover the battery connectors with an
insulator (reference the warnings in this section).
3. To disconnect, reverse the procedure.
4. Charge the Memory Saver as soon as possible after use.
WARNING
WARNING
When working with the vehicle's battery, review all of the battery manufacturer's
safety instructions, warnings and directives regarding battery disconnection,
removal and replacement.
4.3
POWERING A 12V DEVICE
The Memory Saver is a power source for all 12V DC accessories that are equipped with
a 12V accessory plug. Use it for power outages and fishing or camping trips. Estimated
usage time is listed in the following chart.
Make sure the device to be powered is OFF before inserting the 12V DC accessory plug
into the 12V DC accessory outlet.
1. Open the protective cover of the DC power outlet on the back of the Memory Saver.
2. Plug the 12V DC device into the DC power outlet and turn on the 12V DC device
(if required).
3. If the 12V DC device draws more than 9A or has a short circuit, the internal circuit
breaker of the Memory Saver will trip and disconnect the power to the device.
Disconnect the 12V DC device. The breaker will automatically reset after an
overload occurs.
IMPORTANT
IMPORTANT
Verify all vehicle accessories are OFF. To prevent overloading of a
vehicle fuse or other vehicle damage, do not use the Memory Saver
WARNING
The vehicle's electrical system is receiving power from the
Memory Saver through the OBD connection. Therefore, the
vehicle's battery connectors will still conduct electricity and
should be covered with an insulator to prevent the connectors
from touching metal or each other and causing a short circuit.
The DC power outlet is wired directly to the internal battery. Extended
operation of a 12V DC device may result in excessive battery drain.
Recharge immediately after unplugging the 12V DC device.
Do not power a 12V DC device with the Memory Saver while using the
OBD connector to power the on-board diagnostic computer. Doing so will
drain the Memory Saver's internal battery and reduce available run time.
