2. Description of the HPM 3000B Moisture
Measuring Device
The electronic moisture measuring device HPM 3000B serves
for determining the moisture (content) in wood, plaster,
masonry and other construction materials. Based on the
conductance/resistance measurement, a rapid and precise
measurement can be performed with corresponding
characteristics.
The LCD display for reading off the moisture level makes it
easier to use the device and also enables a quick estimation
of the moisture trend.

2.1. Select the material
Press the „Material" button to toggle between Wood and
Plaster/Masonry.
2.2. Tilt the material view
Depending on the position of the moisture measuring instru-
ment, you have the option of turning the display clockwise so
as to be able to read out the measured display comfortably.
2.3. Pull off the protective cap
The measuring needles are exposed by pulling off the protec-
tive cap. Replace the protective cap after use to avoid injuries
from the measuring needles and damage to the needles them-
selves.
2.4. Measuring in materials
Press the measuring needles gently into the material you wish
to measure (approx. 1mm). The measurement is performed
automatically and the measured value can be read off the dis-
play.
3. Functional Description
3.1 Switching on the device
The devices switches on as soon as the
The battery status is indicated in the top right of the LDC
display.
3.2 Measurements in wood
1. Press the probe containing the measuring needles gently
into the wood to be measured.
2. The measurement is performed automatically so that the
measured value can now be read off from the display.
As soon as the measuring needles are removed the
measured value changes.
Moisture display in percent by weight 6-30 %. max.,
deviation +/- 1 %
On drop
(6 - 12 % = air-dry wood)
Two drops
(l3 - 19 % = critical wood moisture)
Three drops
(20 - 30 % = excessive moisture, root cause
analysis is required)
Depending on the type of wood, the displayed value must
be modified slightly owing to the different wood density. For
this, use the printed Table of Wood Types indicating the exact
deviations. The displayed value of the HPM 3000B refers
to wood type 1.
Paint and coating manufacturers provide information on their
containers regarding the maximum permissible moisture at
which it is possible to work with the material.
Attention: If the wood has been treated with impregnation,
significantly higher measuring results may occur. All informati-
on without guarantee.
3.3 Measurements in plaster and masonry
Moisture display in digits from 0 - 100. By measuring at various
points, e.g. a damp wall, it is possible to trace the moisture
source. The depth measuring probe can be helpful here.
Measurements at various times allow you to conclude
whether the moisture has increased or decreased. This makes
it easier to search for causes behind the resultant moisture.
