Panavia Tornado GR4 617 Squadron

2013
signifies
the 70th
Anniversary
of one of
the most daring and spectacular missions in aviation history,
the
Dambusters
Raid
Codenamed Operation Chastise, its aim was
to breach the major dams of
the
Ruhr, paralysing
the
German
industry that
thrived
in the valleys
below.
Secondary
benefits of
the raid included
the
destruction of vast amounts of farmland as
well as the material that
would
then
be
sapped in the fixing of the
damaged and destroyed
dams.
On
the
night of the
16th,
specially
modified Lancaster bombers succeeded in breaching two of the
dams.
the Mohne and
Edersee,
and others were
damaged.
While
the true benefits of the raid continue to be discussed to this
day,
it is definite that the raid was a courageous and brave one to
undertake.
To commemorate this
action,
the RAFs
617
Squadron
lo
had two
of
their state of the
art Panavia Tornado GR4s
painted
with special tail art, incorporating
silhouettes
of the
Lancaster,
the
Tornado and the Dams they breached. These machines
will
operate at air shows throughout the 2013 display
season,
as
well
as undertaking a number of anniversary fly pasts helping to both
educate and commemorate this daring
mission.

RESULTS: Surfaces to be painted should be clean - before parts are removed from the
sprue,
wash
in
warm,
soapy
water, rinse and dry thoroughly. Stir paints thoroughly before use.
