ReNew Electrocautery Probe Handpiece and Electrode Tips
INDICATIONS
The ReNew Electrocautery Probe and electrode tips are intended to cauterize tissues in endoscopic and
laparoscopic surgical procedures.
CONTRAINDICATIONS
The ReNew Electrocautery Probe and electrode tips are not intended for use except as indicated.
INSPECTION
Carefully inspect the shipping carton and its contents for any sign of damage. If damage is visible, DO NOT
USE the instrument.
PRIOR TO USE
This instrument is delivered without electrode tips. Electrode tips are available in various configurations.
NOTE: The ReNew electrode tips are specifically designed to be used only with the ReNew Electrocautery
Probe.
The handpiece is delivered with a detachable cap that allows for connection of the generator cord and
also flushing of the lumen, when removed from the handpiece. Ensure that the cap is securely tightened
to the handle prior to use.
HANDPIECE/TIP ASSEMBLY
1. Insert an electrode tip into the distal end of the shaft, and screw the tip in clockwise until tip is
screwed tight. A tip is fully assembled to the shaft when the white marker band located on the
distal end of the shaft is no longer visible.
2. The instrument is ready for use.
PRECAUTIONS
1. CAUTION: Prior to use, assure that the plastic hub of the electrode tip is fully in contact with the
insulation tube of the handpiece and that no gap exists between the two parts at that contact
point.
2. Do not use the handpiece if the threaded distal end of the shaft appears worn, damaged or
missing.
3. Do not use mechanical means to assemble/disassemble the electrode tip to/from the device.
Serious malfunction of the device may occur.
4. Use only with safety certified generators.
ELECTROCAUTERY
First, connect the electrosurgical cord (not furnished with this instrument) to the handpiece by placing the
female end of the cord on the male adapter pin on the handpiece, which is recessed in the cap. Plug the
other end of the cord into the monopolar receptacle of the generator.
PRECAUTIONS
1. A complete understanding of the principle of monopolar electrocautery surgical procedures is
necessary to avoid accidental shocks, burns, or potential gas embolism to the patient.
2. Keep the power as low as possible to achieve the desirable effect.
3. Do not activate the generator until the tip is in contact with the tissue or is in a position to deliver
high frequency energy to the tissue.
4. Be sure that a return electrode grounding pad has been properly attached to the patient and the
generator.
5. The ReNew Electrocautery Probe has an integrated sealing feature at the distal end of the shaft,
which is an integral part of the system.
6. Electrical Ratings: To reduce risk of electrical burn or shock, hand pieces and tips are not to be used
beyond their maximum recurring peak voltage ratings: 1KVp in cutting mode, 2.35KVp in
coagulation burst mode, 4.0 KVp in spray coagulation mode.
HANDPIECE CLEANING
CAUTION: ELECTRODE TIPS MUST BE REMOVED FROM THE ELECTROSURGICAL CAUTERY PROBE
HANDPIECE PRIOR TO CLEANING AND STERILIZATION OF THE HANDPIECE SINCE THE TIPS ARE SINGLE USE
DISPOSABLE.
Manual Cleaning:
Note: For cleaning purposes, a device consists of shaft and cautery cap.
1. Disassemble device:
a. Remove the cautery cap from the proximal end of the device.
b. Ultrasonic cleaning:
i. Place device into ultrasonic bath filled with enzymatic detergent solution prepared in
accordance with manufacturer's recommendations.
ii. Sonicate device for 10 minutes.
iii. Rinse device with running tap water to remove gross soil for one (1) minute.
2. Presoak in enzymatic Solution:
a. Prepare enzymatic detergent solution in accordance to the manufacturer's recommendations.
i. Flush any lumen-like channels with detergent, by Inserting a 60mL luer type syringe filled
with prepared detergent solution where the cap was removed and flushing with a
minimum of 60 mL of detergent solution. Repeat filling the syringe and flushing the shaft
for a total of three (3) times and 180 mL.
ii. Immerse device in enzymatic solution; allow to soak for a minimum of one (1) minute.
