The modules may be powered from either 220/240V 50/60Hz 1.2VA
(Terminals 1 and 2), or from a smoothed 15 - 32V (20mA max) d.c.
source (Terminal 3 Positive, Terminal 4 Negative). A 1.25" x 0.25"
100mA 450V Quick-Acting (F) HBC fuse is fitted in the mains supply
circuit.
Signal
The maximum desired signal input may be preset, using the Span
control, over a range of 2V to 30Vd.c. (factory set to 10V). Terminal 7
is common and Terminal 6 is the positive signal input. A zero offset can
be preset, using the Zero control, from 0 to 30% of the preset span.
Alternatively, a 10kΩ linear potentiometer may be used to control the
module, in which case the auxiliary +12V supply (5mA max.), available
from Terminal 5, may be used to energise the potentiometer.
Indicator
The LED marked "Ratio" turns on to indicate that the output is enabled.
The outputs are turned on for a fraction of the cycle time (1 second)
corresponding to the magnitude of the control signal. The Ratio LED
is also used to set up the Span and Zero controls. With the control
signal set to minimum, Zero is adjusted until the Ratio LED just stays
off. With the control signal set to maximum, Span is adjusted until the
Ratio LED just stays on without flashing. When set up correctly with
the signal set to 50%, the LED on and off times should be equal (about
0.5 seconds).
Isolation
The input/output isolation is 7500V rms minimum.
Output
Each output can drive either a Triac or a pair of inverse-connected
SCR's switching any mains supply between 100V and 440V 50/60Hz.
The output driver connections are not polarised. A fuse, 1.25" x 0.25"
100mA 450V Quick-Acting (F) HBC, protects each output. The output
device can supply a maximum trigger pulse of 1A for 10ms and hence
is suitable for triggering most SCR's and Triacs. The resistor R should
be selected to allow a suitable gate tigger current to each thyristor
triggered (47R 1/2 W will suffice for most applications). It is also
recommended to connect a Metal Oxide Varistor (MOV) across the
Triac or inverse Thyristor pair, to protect these devices from mains
transients (e.g. for a 240V supply use a 275V MOV and for a 415V
supply use a 460V MOV). The output device has a capability of
supplying 250mA continuously. Should a protective fuse blow, it must
be replaced by one of the same type and rating to guarantee continued
protection of the output. The apparent anomaly between the fuse
rating and output capability results from consideration of the fuse
characteristics and overload capability of the output device.
