MAINTENANCE
WEATHERING STEEL
DISH
The dish itself is made out of
wheathering steel, a special type of
weather-resistant metal
virtually the same characteristics as
regular steel.
Put outside, wheathering
however reacts to
gradually covering itself with a
protective layer of rust, also called
"platinum layer". As a result,
further erosion due to rain or fire is
prevented and the Qrater can safely
be left outside.
A small hole in the centre of the dish
also ensures that the water is
evacuated into the smaller dish in
the galvanised steel pedestal. This
pedestal also prevents the heat
from harming the surface under
the Qrater, as there is no direct
contact between the material and
the surface. You should however be
careful with delicate surfaces. The
intense heat can cause damage. If the
Qrater is left outside for a long time
without being used, rain combined
with rust can also cause stains.
GALVANISED STEEL

Hot dip galvanisation is the most
durable way of protecting metal
against rusting. If the zinc coating
is damaged, the exposed metal can
rust. This can easily be touched up
with zinc paint that automatically
has the same colour and is readily
available in shops.
Galvanisation is a thermal process
that can slightly deform the material.
Other metal protection methods do
not have this disadvantage, but the
quality they offer is insufficient.
