Gigabit switch
Item no. 97 61 94 (5 ports)
Item no. 97 56 62 (8 ports)
Intended use
The Gigabit Switch is intended for cable-based networking of computers or other devices suit-
able for the purpose. Depending on the version, it provides 5 or 8 twisted-pair connections
(RJ45).
The power is supplied from the power supply unit included in the delivery.
Always observe the safety instructions and all other information included in these operating
instructions.
This product complies with the applicable National and European requirements. All names of

Safety Instructions
The warranty will be void in the event of damage caused by failure to observe
these safety instructions! We do not assume any liability for any consequen-
tial damage!
Nor do we assume any liability for material and personal damage caused by
improper use or non-compliance with the safety instructions! The warranty will
be void in such cases.
• For safety and licensing (CE) reasons, unauthorised conversion and/or modifi ca-
tion of the product are not permitted.
• The product is not a toy. Keep devices that operate on the mains voltage out of the
reach of children. Therefore, be especially careful when children are around.
Use the product where it is out of the reach of children.
• The product is only intended for use in dry, indoor locations. No part of the product
should be allowed to become moist or wet; never take hold of it if your hands are
wet!
There is a risk of a life-threatening electric shock!
• Only operate the gigabit switch using the enclosed wall plug transformer.
• Do not pull the wall plug transformer from the mains socket by pulling on the cable.
Take it on the side of the housing and pull it out of the mains socket.
• If the wall plug transformer is damaged, do not touch it; there is danger to life from
electric shock!
Switch off the mains voltage to the mains socket to which the wall plug transformer
is connected (switch off at the corresponding circuit breaker or remove the safety
fuse).
You can then unplug the wall plug transformer from the mains socket. Dispose of
the damaged wall plug transformer in an environmentally friendly way, do not use
it any more. Replace it by a wall plug transformer of the same design.
• The design of the wall plug transformer complies with protection class II. Only use
a standard power socket as the voltage source for the wall plug transformer (see
section „Technical Data").
• Do not leave packaging material carelessly lying around since it could become a
dangerous plaything for children.
• Handle the product with care, it can be damaged by impacts, blows, or accidental
drops, even from a low height.
Connection
www.conrad.com
• Connect the low-voltage socket on the gigabit switch to the corresponding round plug on the
enclosed wall plug transformer.
Version 09/11
Plug the wall plug transformer into an appropriate mains socket. The power LED of the giga-
bit switch must now light up indicating that the product is ready for use.
• Connect the gigabit switch's RJ45 network ports to the corresponding ports on your computer
(or with other devices with network connections, e.g. television, satellite receiver, games
consoles etc.).
• One LED per port is used as control LED for a correct network wiring (LED lights up) or a data
transfer (LED fl ashes).
If the LED lights green, this indicates a 10/100MBit data connection. If the LED lights in
orange, this means there is a1000MBit data connection (gigabit).
If the gigabit switch recognises a loop connection (two ports of the gigabit switch were unin-
tentionally connected with each other, e.g. via another network switch), both port LEDs fl ash
simultaneously. Furthermore, the power LED fl ashes in red/green. Disconnect one of the two
connections from the gigabit switch in order to stop the loop connection.
Set-up
Ensure that the gigabit switch is stable and that it cannot topple over.
Protect the surface of valuable furniture by using an appropriate underlay, otherwise it may
cause scratches.
Install all cables in such a way that nobody may trip over them.
We recommend you to label the network cables in order to fi nd the cause quickly and easily
in the event of failures. There are e.g. special stickers available as accessories. Cables with
different colours may be of help with the network wiring too.
Handling
The gigabit switch supplied has automatic uplink recognition for each port, which
allows for particularly simple wiring to other switches. A cross-link cable is no longer
required; you can use a conventional 1:1 connected network cable.
• Only use in dry indoor locations. The product must not get damp or wet! There is a
risk of a life-threatening electric shock!
• Never use the product immediately after it has been taken from a cold room to a
warm one. The condensation that forms might destroy your unit. This might cause
a lethal electric shock!
Allow the product to reach room temperature, before connecting it to the power
supply and putting it in to use. This may take several hours.
• Any maintenance or repair work may only be carried out by authorised personnel.
• Check the product for damage before each use!
If you detect any damage, DO NOT connect the product to the mains supply!
A safe operation can no longer be assumed, if:
- the product shows visible signs of damage,
- the product does not function or does not function properly (e.g. a burning smell)
- the product was stored under unfavourable conditions
- it was exposed to heavy loads during transport
• When setting up the product, make sure that the cables are neither kinked nor
pinched.
• If you are not going to use the product for a while (e.g. during storage), disconnect
the wall plug transformer from the mains socket (all the network connections will
cease to function!).
• Avoid the following adverse conditions at the installation location and during trans-
portation:
- Damp or excess air humidity
- Extreme cold or heat
- Dust or fl ammable gases, fumes or solvents
- Strong vibrations
